Probably the best Cypriot Meze I've ever had with a real traditional feel to it!
So just to inform those who aren't aware of what a Meze is. Typically, a Mezze consists of a selection of small plates, like tapas, but unlike tapas, you don't order each individual dish. Instead a set of dishes are selected by the restaurant and they bring them in succession, starting from salads and dips and ending with meat at the end. Mezze is usually quoted as the price per person, but what they actually mean is the price per portion, as you can order less than the number of people on the table. This is advisable, because I've never witnessed any group being able to finish, if they order the same number of Mezzes as there are people.
Anyway, from what I can remember, the Mezze started with a Greek salad, olives, tahini, tzanziki and some freshly baked bread, all of which were delicious. We were then served snails, Cypriot style pasta with grated halloumi, fried courgettes and home made halloumi, which was unique to this restaurant and was amazing. This was followed by keftedes, papoutsakia, chicken and pork souvlaki, sheftalia and pastrouma. Then we also got Kleftiko, which is also not usually given as part of a Mezze. After finishing with all that, we were also served with dessert, which consisted of fresh fruit and pourekia. (I'm pretty sure I have forgotten a few dishes, but these are the ones that really stood out).
There were four of us, but we only ordered two Mezzes and we only just were able to finish it. Everything was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I definitely plan...
Read morePerfect with a small caveat. Never have I been served as much delicious food as I was that day. I could likely go my entire life without eating anything but keftédes, halloumi, and tzatzíki for the rest of my life. The rest of the meal was ridiculously tasty as well. My mum claimed that the lamb was the best she had ever tried. I can confirm that it was ridiculously tender, and it sure was full of flavor. It's quite a shame that I don't like lamb. The salad was a nice breath of fresh air from all the heavy foods. Ah, yes: snails. Pretty good! If you like mussels, you probably won't mind them. It's not something I'd deliberately order, but experiencing it was definitely worth it. A meal greater than the sum of it's parts, for sure. The aforementioned caveat is, that some of our meat was overcooked. I'm more than willing to look past this as we were already completely stuffed when we got to it. Furthermore, the quality of the rest of the food was so high that it was likely a fluke, regardless. Mousikos has an interesting heritage and backtory, and it's has led to a beautiful, cozy restaurant that I'd gladly visit again. Truly a diamond in the rough. P.S.: I picked a fig from the tree out front. Coming from a Scandinavian country where they don't naturally grow, it was awesome getting to try a freshly picked fig. 100% worth it. Just don't tell...
Read moreWe heard so many good things about this restaurant before and maby that is why it dissapointed me badly... We booked a table and when we came there were just few tables occupied - even though we waited quite to get meny. We were a bit undecided what we would lije to eat and waitres seem to be nervous that we asked for a bit more time also not very happy for us to ask questions rather answered that "it is really good". We decided that we will try meze. Food was good but nothing above avarage apart from home made halloumi and bread which was exceptionally good. All the dishes came very fast whithout any explanation. As we didnt rush with eating it seems that kitchen and waitresses really rushed to "be done with our table". As an effect our last meat dishes were cold when we were ready to eat them. Waitresses moved so fast that we were not able to ask them for more drinks or coffe when they were at our table. I was looking for a dinner experience in a place which is know from cypriot food instead I got just OK food and very bad service. To resume I dont thinkn it is worth to take taxi and pay extra for the same food and much better service that You can get in Ayia Napa or Protaras. Sadly,...
