Our experience at De Soto Seafood Kitchen was nothing short of spectacular. We indulged in the Caribbean Platter, featuring coconut shrimp, jerk chicken breast, and grilled grouper on a bed of Caribbean rice, topped with mango fruit salsa. My wife couldn't stop raving about her dish, rating it a perfect 10 out of 10. She paired it with a delightful sweet potato casserole and a refreshing bushwhacker frozen beverage. While my Creole Platter, showcasing Crawfish Étouffée and shrimp creole with blackened catfish on yellow rice, was near perfection, the Crawfish Étouffée fell slightly short due to its under-seasoned green roux. However, after a bit of improvisation with Tabasco sauce and lemon, along with mixing it with the rice and shrimp creole, the dish transformed into a flawless 10 out of 10. The attention to detail extended to the beverages, with the club soda being the best I've had on the Gulf. Served with crushed ice and fresh lime and lemon, it was a refreshing delight. The hushpuppies were divine, and the sweet potato casserole was a crowd-pleaser. But the real star of the show was the Key Lime Pie, a perfect ending to our vacation. The manager's hospitality was the cherry on top of an already delightful experience. Giving us a tour of the restaurant and presenting us with a souvenir utensil added a personal touch that made our visit truly memorable. We left De Soto Seafood Kitchen with hearts and stomachs full, eager to return for another unforgettable dining experience.

Our group had a chance to visit Desoto's Seafood Kitchen in Gulf Shores on vacation. Overall I would say this is an excellent choice. One of the main features at this restaurant is picking a catch of the Day and then choosing the way you want that prepared. When we were there, the catch of the Day was trigger fish, tuna, grouper, and flounder. You can look at the menu for the choices that you have for the preparation for these fish. I chose the triggerfish with the Caribbean preparation and was not disappointed. The two fish fillets were amazing and all the flavors associated with that particular preparation were very good together. The crab cakes were also very good and the shrimp pesto alfredo is a good choice. The only complaint I have about this is one of the sides available was the steamed vegetables. In this case it was broccoli, cauliflower and carrot. At a place like this. This seems pretty poor for the steamed vegetable. Not only that, but the broccoli was horrible, mushy and almost gray in color. Color. Seems like to me for this kind of place that either this particular choice for steamed vegetable would not even be on the menu or that it would at least be cooked properly. So I would say just don't order the steamed vegetables because all the other sides seemed very good that we ordered. I highly recommend this place if you are in Gulf Shores. Enjoy!

Okay so atmosphere might be a 3 star if you like the forty year old dive vibe. Y’all, I used to love to go to Desotos but I guess it is true that you can’t go home again. It makes me sad that this place isnt what it used to be. Four of us had a variety of dishes and not one of us was a fan. That almost never happens. You can get your selection of fresh fish in several preparations. Mediterranean, which is broiled fish served over angel hair pesto. Cajun, which has etouffee on top. Pecan crusted and a couple of other treatments. We had these three and they were just bland. No seasoning to speak of, even on the Cajun fish. The fish portions were large and cooked correctly. The accompanying sauces were the issue. The etouffee was this gray color and tasted like flour. The pesto had plenty of basil and oil but no real flavor. One of us got the fried oysters. They were fried well but, again, lacked seasoning. We passed salt and pepper around to make everything palatable but that shouldn’t have to happen. The side salad, which costs $2 extra to sub as a side was poured out of a salad bag onto a tiny plate, and sprinkled with cheese and boxed croutons. The other sides at our table were the steamed veggies and the sweet potato casserole. I think the sweet potato casserole was the only item that everyone seemed to really like so it was good! We started with Bushwackers all around. These were more ice cream than anything. (And we LOVE a good bushwhacker!) None of us finished them. We got coconut shrimp as an appetizer and two of the four of us liked them. Service was friendly and fairly prompt, considering we arrived at 5:00pm and were one of only about five tables at the time. This place has waiting lists and lines and I can only think that some are like me and want to recapture childhood restaurant memories OR they are first timers in Gulf Shores. These guys seem to be resting on their laurels and there are just too many other seafood places that are really striving to serve great food. I hope DeSoto’s will consider putting effort into a menu update and a reworking of their current dishes. It really pains me to write this one off but we wont return.

I forgot shrimp could taste like this. I’m literally salivating writing this weeks later reminiscing on the meal. The night before Hurricane Ida made landfall we went to grab a bite to eat an hour before they closed. Luckily, the reviews led us here. The three rolls (pumpernickel rye, wheat and white) started off the meal. They’re made fresh in house as needed. Before the at. Our waitress kept everything together with multiple, multiple tables and never lost a beat, a smile or fell behind. She made it all look so easy and effortless. For an appetizer, we had the smoked yellow fin tuna dip. To me it tasted like tuna fish salad. My mate, however, picked up on the subtle smoke flavor. Served with crostini. I had the tail-less shrimp and flounder. The shrimp were out of this world. My partner had Caribbean platter—with jerk chicken, coconut shrimp and grouper. He really liked the jerk seasoning. Everything was cooked just right. We had a pina colada, it was like a skinny-girl drink, without the creamy part. Very modestly decorated inside. Tasty meal. Would come back again to try something different.

I was travelling solo and a friend of mine suggested this place. It was OK. Nothing to brag about. I got seated about 12:15 and it was busy but it took about 15 minutes for some one to approach me. I ordered a beer and placed my order. It appears the ticket was entered immediately as the date/time stamp on the receipt shows 12:36. I didn't leave the place until after 1:30pm. The food took a very long time to come out, the waitress even apologized and gave me a free beer. I got the fried shrimp plate. It was OK, I am positive it was frozen shrimp, fries were typical frozen. Nothing was hot. It was OK, but I can't see myself going back. The thing that irks me the most is that there was a 50 cent convenience charge on the receipt for credit card. No one asked me if I was paying cash or not, which I did. I placed the cash on the table and waited for her to come back to tell her but again after about 10 minutes I just got up and left. I gave a 15% tip, I usually always give 20% or more.
