Shark mouth = entrance. Need we say more? 🦈 Souvenir City has been a Gulf Shores icon since 1956 — the oldest (and best) souvenir shop on the beach. T-shirts, shells, taffy, hermit crabs… it’s a whole vibe. 💙 Let us know where we should go next and Come Have A Ball At The Beach! • • • #OnTheBall #BEACHBALLPROPERTIES #SouvenirCity #GulfShoresAL #SharkEntrance #BestKeptSecret #BeachVibes #ComeHaveABall

This is the place with the big shark out in front - you can’t miss it! Right on the main drag of Gulf Shores near all the hotels and condos. My kiddo is obsessed with sharks, so he really wanted a pic “inside the shark’s mouth.” We stopped by on our way out of town. I remember getting photos when I was younger in the shark’s mouth, so it was a great opportunity to recreate it a couple of decades later. The parking lot is quite small, but there is an additional parking lot in the back. As a reward for having to walk around the building to get the shark picture, you can also get a view of a huge pirate ship and pose as a pirate with a cute cut-out! The store itself is stuffed FULL of, well, stuff. T-shirts, knickknacks, hats, local artists’ work, breakable things (so many breakable things - watch your kids!), toys, shoes, food, snacks, etc etc etc. We don’t do your traditional clothing or hat souvenirs, but I was able to find a Christmas ornament to commemorate our time in Gulf Shores. There are also a few additional photo ops in the store, so it’s not just a shopping trip - it’s an experience! The aisles are very narrow in spots… I did see someone with a shopping cart, but maybe it was for show. There are also lots of breakable glass items, so if we spent too much time in there with small kids, my anxiety level would definitely creep up. Okay for a quick pop-in, though! The checkout process is kinda madness because there’s no obvious line, but my complaint on that is minimal because I was able to hop in behind a group of old ladies and not wait too long. Others that came after might feel differently. I think this is definitely worth a drop in if you’re in Gulf Shores. I mean, you gotta go to a Shark Shop when you’re in a beach town!

It should be illegal the “care instructions sheet” and tips from employees when getting a hermit crab here. 2 weeks ago when doing just that, getting the biggest cage available (a tiny critter cage with neon rocks) the lady working there told me not to put any water in it .. not even an inch just sponges bc they’ll drown. WRONG WRONG. Hermit crabs need 6+ inches of sand (not rocks) to molt, 10+ gal tank minimum, 80% humidity or they suffocate. No sponges, no neon gravel they sell. And YES WATER.. both fresh and salt water bowls. I brought my baby home, researched, and gave her a chance at life but will NEVER buy from a souvenir city again knowing they are literally torturing these poor animals. If you don’t want to spend another $200+ on correct living arrangements so it doesn’t slowly suffocate, and even then risky bc of its previous health living in this place.. DONT BUY A HERMIT CRAB FROM HERE

Worst customer service in Gulf Shores. I will NEVER go back. Should have read the reviews on here first. Check the prices before you hand the cashier any money. I am extremely sorry I went to this store, should have went to the octopus store or somewhere else. Lesson learned. I went to souvenir City today, purchased a car tag. On the back of the tag is said $2.99 with the artwork made it $21.99. when I checked out I was charged $21.99 even though I did not have the painter paint anything on it. I asked the cashier why she said because the $2.99 is just for a plain silver plate. They do not sell plain silver plates. I paid for a pre-stamped license plate, that they said was artwork. I could have went anywhere in the United States and got the exact same cheap tag for around 5 to $10. When I asked for a refund because I felt like I was being scammed, she refused. I would like to thank souvenir City for scamming me. I understand that you sell overpriced items. Had I seen silver tags in the back I would have agreed that the silver tags were $2.99, and that the other tags was 21.99. there are no silver tags. Souvenir City in Gulf shores, customers watch your prospects do not pay if you think you were being overcharged they will not refund the over charge. Do not hand the cashier any money unless you know for a fact what you're paying for is the price that is on the item. I've learned my lesson and I'm spreading this lesson to others to save you from being ripped...

You can find just about anything as far as souvenirs here. Here’s a tip, if you like to repurpose bags like we do, they have sturdy souvenir bags that they use at checkout if you spend $50 or more, however, they will try and pack as much stuff into one bag as possible. I spent $289 and they overpacked my bag and when I asked for another they said no. I had to get the manager and told her I could have done 5 separate transactions and received 5 bags, so she handed me one more. My son and daughter were with me and wanted one and my son spent $40 something. So, my tip for you is separate your transactions and they can waste more time and paper on receipts if you would like the nice souvenir gift bag, because no matter how much over $50 you spend in one transaction they will load it up and try to pack as much into one as possible. Technically, we could have separated ours together and gotten 6 but would be happy with 3. I am grateful to the manager for the one extra she gave for the $289 I spent. I did say before I asked for the manager that I would just return and rebuy but it’s...
