We have visited the restaurant few days ago, expecting the best food quality and service on spot, to ensure our evening will be nice and memorable. We have been trying to make a reservation by phone for 5 days in a row. Unfortunately nobody was answering the phone. We found out at our arrival that all tables at the terrace are busy so we were offered to take a sit inside the restaurant. First of all we've been shown to the table but for the first 10-15 minutes nobody came with MENU. I was giving small signs to the waiter and the manager, as they were standing at the entrance and doing absolutely NOTHING. My husband had to stand up and ask personally the waiter for the menu. When he came with it I asked if we can change the table if any of the guests sitting outside will be leaving. We heard that it will be hard because they have a lot of reservations. We could only wait. After next 10 minutes I spotted the manager who was waving to me from a quite far distance. He did not even make an effort to move these few steps forward to invite us outside. The table was just covered with new cutlery but nobody gave a damn to change the white tablecloth that was covered with stains of oil and tomato sauce. The waiter came to us after another 5-8 minutes so we could finally order something to drink and eat. We have ordered many starters, including two portions of tzatziki (only 1 portion arrived on our table though). Hummus wasn’t good at all, no flavor, runny, not smooth at all. Tzatziki didn’t find our appreciation too. Babaganough was nice, grilled eggplant with tomato sauce as well. I enjoyed the eggplant mixed with raisins and walnuts but it was lacking of more intense flavor. We got 5 pieces of bread, which finished in 2 minutes so we asked the passing waiter for more. He said ok, no problem. Like that we were sitting another 10 minutes. I know that they bake own bread in the restaurant, but we had to ask the waiter for it 2 times more to bring it finally. At the 3rd request he looked really irritated and angry. For the main course we have ordered grilled squids, grilled shrimps and grilled octopus. Octopus and squids were served without anything! No sides, no salad. Shrimps were served on flat, soggy pita bread covered with olive oil, with rice and salad. This “salad” were literally 3 pieces of tomato, 3 cubes of cucumber and same amount of pepper. During our whole dinner nobody came to ask if everything is ok, if we like the food or if we need anything. We were waiting really long for somebody to come and take dirty plates from the table. We took that as a chance and asked for sth more to drink and menu to order dessert. For 15min we were asking the same waiter for menu 3 times! He was saying all the time “yes yes” but without any effect. Eventually my husband got angry and asked another passing us waiter to call the manager. He came in 1 minute asking if everything is ok. We told him that we wait for menu 20 minutes now and nobody doesn’t give a damn. He collected 4 menus and gave us in a second. I wanted to eat cream caramel which was unavailable, so I decided for Tiramisu. It was nice, but not homemade. My husband had a halava with ice creams. Good and big dessert too. As they include 12% service to the bill we did not leave any tip, as the service was really horrible and the quality of food still needs a lot of improvements. When we were leaving there were 2 waiters and the manager standing at the entrance thanking us for a visit and welcoming back. TOO LATE! If the service was like that from the beginning we could consider visiting this place again. One more thing worth to mention about the restaurant interiors – the old, hanging from the ceiling paint over the guests’ heads and tables doesn’t look good and it is not safe. If the lamp at the terrace is cracked and there are cables hanging from it just FIX IT. Don’t wait for a child or for an adult even to touch it and get electric shock. For sure we will not come back there anymore. The only nice thing there is the adorable city and...
Read moreThe biggest benefit of eating here is the view. It is really amazing. You are right on the water and have a great view of the bay. We got there in time to watch sunset and it was one of the best views we had on our trip during a meal. We had our hotel call for a reservation and they were able to get us in on fairly short notice during the week and we still got a table right along the railing overlooking the water.
The biggest downside to eating here is how slow the service is. I am used to eating in foreign countries and that some places have a much slower pace to them. This is not one of those cases. I couldn't get anyone's attention even when I tried, and our server would be gone for 10-15 minutes at a time even when I tried to get his attention. Overall it took us 2.5 hours to have a meal that likely we would have had in about an hour to an hour and a half anywhere else. An extra hour of just waiting for a server is quite a lot for me.
The food was ok. It seemed fresh and tasted good. However, nothing stood out. There was no special preparation, no special sauces, no special sides. Just decent food. For the price, compared to where I live, it was reasonable. The price compared to other places we ate while in Egypt, it was expensive.
We enjoyed the experience of eating there and I am not upset that we went, but I also wouldn't go back.
We visited in...
Read moreA timeless treasure by the sea – White and Blue Greek Club, Alexandria
Thanks to my wonderful tour guides from Footnotes Alexandria, I was introduced to the Blue and White Greek Club – and I couldn’t be more grateful. Tucked along the coastline, this restaurant offers one of the most breathtaking views in Alexandria. Sitting here feels like a quiet embrace from the city’s Mediterranean soul.
The staff were incredibly attentive from the moment we arrived, making the experience feel truly special. The seafood selection is absolutely staggering – a paradise for anyone who loves the ocean’s offerings. I chose the Alexandria catched prawns, along with crab and mussels. The kitchen even fulfilled my special request to have the mussels steamed in white wine – a beautiful touch.
A special thank you to Elias, the manager, who took care of us with warmth and genuine hospitality.
For those looking to connect with Alexandria’s Greek-Italian-British heritage, this is the perfect spot. In fact, sitting here, I couldn’t help but think of my great-grandparents – who came to this spot and dined in this very place. Some traditions are simply worth...
