I had a generally pleasant evening on the Nile, enjoying music aboard a boat. However, calling it a "cruise" is a bit of a stretch. The boat merely sailed out of the port, moving very slowly, maybe just 1 km away from the shore and back. It felt more like a river experience than an actual cruise where you could see iconic Cairo landmarks from the water. The program was tight and well-timed, starting with dinner and followed by three performances: a singer, Turkish dancers, and Egyptian belly dancers. I ended up eating a little and then heading to the upper deck, as I preferred to relax rather than stay in the loud hall where the performances took place.
This activity is very affordable for tourists (costing $11), and the price includes hotel transfer both ways. Our guide, Ahmed, was very friendly and took great care of our group, which was transported in several cars.
One thing to watch out for: as someone who enjoys cooking, I found the buffet food to be overly salty. All dishes, including meat, fish, and salads, had the same level of seasoning. The idea seems to be to make you thirsty, and it certainly works. However, the prices for drinks (which weren’t included in the attraction) were about ten times higher than in a store. A small bottle of water cost 100 EGP, which was the cheapest option, and prices for juices and sodas went up from there. Be aware that, while almost everything else is included, you might end up with a bill for $10... $20... $30 for drinks, as you'll likely become quite thirsty. I recommend bringing your own water—it's your right.
The upper deck was very pleasant, although you’ll need to find a spot away from the cigarette smoke. This is a common issue in Egypt, where smoking is widespread, and if you want to avoid it, it can be challenging. I wouldn't choose this attraction again, and I regret not having booked another, more genuine cruise earlier. However, the organization was well-managed, with a friendly atmosphere, and that aspect definitely deserves top marks. Just be sure to understand the nature of the attraction so you're not...
Read moreRead moreIt was quite bad experience for such type of the river tours. The only ok-ish thing was the food. The alcoholic beverages were rather expensive, e.g. a beer bottle was 4 euro. While listed as a river tour, the boat has made just a couple of circles between two bridges, without moving much along the river. Moreover, our tour was delayed, so it was a bit more than 1h instead of 2 hours as advertised. The waiters were rude, did not allow us to take a free table, and then gave it to another group (who seemed to be more "easy going" with their money, but they also did not reserved it). In the end of the tour, the waiter did not give us the receipt after we paid for our drinks. The show was nothing spectacular, a bit of live music and the belly dancer who danced for 5-10 minutes, and then spent more time to make photos with guests (the price for a photo was $5 usd). Guests were not allowed to take food upstairs, but there were local people having their dinner at the upper deck. Overall, this experience absolutely doesn’t deserve the hefty price...
One of the worst experiences I ever had with a restaurant. I have been attending to Andrea since i was a kid in El Haram. Today i decided to give maadi a try and here are my thoughts:
poor service & hospitality: from the moment of walking to leaving, almost everyone is busy serving one table and the rest is nit being looked into i called a servant to ask making an order, so he asked in a weird manner " so you want to make an order?" As if it is strange to make an order in a restaurant when finally someone came after 10 minutes to take my order, the main item that the place is famous for "andrea chicken" is not available before an hour from now and we are asked to order something else we were asked to leave before 6pm as they have a trip while on average, their famous chicken will tale an hour to prepare the chosen chicken breast dish that i ordered was undercooked
To be fair, portions were good for the price yet food quality suffers from lack of proper use of spices
I do not recommend the place to anyone based...
