Having long given up looking for authentic Indian cuisine in Egypt after having tried the likes of Maharaja and a few other so-called Indian restaurants (all over Egypt) that don't have the remotest idea about the Indian cuisine, I stumbled upon Indian Masala House.
I called the number and spoke to Manoj who told me he made authentic Indian cuisine as a chef. So I gave it a try by travelling all the way to another city, Nasr City.
Located inside the Tivoli Plaza amongst a plethora of other food stalls, Indian Masala House can be found at the western end.
We were greeted by Manoj and ordered a few dishes and staples recommended by him. Manoj really knew how to make his customers feel special. He was courteous, kind and hospitable.
The food was the best and closest in taste to the Indian cuisine than any of the other phony Indian restaurants in Egypt. However, the serving size was not satisfactory, nor the ingredients inclusive as mentioned in the menu. Not to mention a very steep price point that one only pays in fine-dining restaurants in Egypt, but here you are sitting in a food court with loud colours and street aesthetics and no air-conditioning.
One of the staples was burnt and stuck to the plate and was inedible, when pointed out, it was replaced but we were charged even for the damaged item!
If you're looking for good proximity in taste to the Indian cuisine around Cairo, Indian Masala House should be your only stop.

Read moreMasala Indian Restaurant in Cairo: An unforgettable experience! My wife and I enjoyed an authentic Indian dinner at Masala. The appetizers were delicious, starting with the refreshing yogurt salad (Rita Khiar) and crispy samosas. The garlic bread (Garlic Naan) and fried Puri bread were a great addition. The main courses were exceptional, the Tandoori grilled chicken breasts (Murgh Makhani) were tender and flavorful, and the Indian cheese with vegetables inside bread rolls (Paneer Roll) was delicious. The Fig Pakora dish was crispy and tasty. We finished our meal with a refreshing Mango Lassi drink. The service was excellent, and the restaurant has a beautiful Indian atmosphere. We highly recommend it! It is worth to mention that Mr. George was an excellent host and made the experience even better with great hospitality and patience for our frequent questions...
Read moreIt's a small but authentic restaurant with an only outdoor area. The food was very tasty, we enjoyed it all. I would really recommend it, although the south indian dishes menu was unavailable at the moment. the prices are really nice compared to the size and quality of the dishes. We ordered lassi, nan garlic bread, samosa, paneer rolls, shrimp biriyani, vegetable biryani, butter chicken and chicken curry. Of course we had to try aloo paratha and paneer paratha as well) everything was really fresh and what's important is not oily as in some other Indian places. The only comment is that the dishes were not coming together and we couldn't enjoy the variety at once...for example all the chapatti and paneer rolls were served at the end when we were already all stuffed. The restaurant interior could also be improved in order to look more appealing and warm...
