This is my go-to restaurant for vegetarian Indian food in Addis so far.
The food has flavour, tastes fresh and is very well packed for home delivery.
My suggestions for improvement are:
The rumali rotis are always a little undercooked. I would suggest cooking them a little more.
The taste for the same dish from one day to the other can differ. I recommend applying more consistent standards in the kitchen.
I plan to visit the restaurant to eat there soon and will update this review then.
Update: i'm getting the impression that this restaurant that was becoming a habit is actually a complete hit or miss. I just reduced from 4 to 3 stars since the inconsistency of the food is leaning towards getting it wrong more often than right and this is very unfortunate since I was really growing to love this place. Today the sev puri had potato on it that did not taste fresh and was definitely underseasoned. The rumali roti is undercooked again and the dough of the samosa was just too oily and not drained enough. Lastly the usual good packaging done with plastic for the wet mains is missing today and the dal was overflowing from the package.
Update: I have ordered from them several times after my last underwhelming experience and have not had a problem with my food since. Taking the rating from 3 to 5. This remains my favorite Indian restaurant in Addis!
Update: I finally visited the restaurant and was very happy with the service and also loved the atmosphere itself. Great place to go for Indian food in Addis. I hope they continue to strive to maintain consistency despite the several known issues and challenges of running an international restaurant business in...
Read moreI have visited Addis Ababa twice (2021 and 2023) and my experience of having food at Om Bistro has always been amazing. This experience was made remarkable simply because of the Chef-Mr. Kuldeep ji. He would customize any dish as per my liking and serve it. I usually refrain from eating restaurant food for too long as I prefer very less-spicy food with less oil, and it was only because of Mr. Kuldeep, that I could get it customized and be in Addis for more than a month and survive on food which felt just like eating at home in India.
The food quality at Om Bistro is superior to any other Indian restaurant in Addis and I can vouch for it after trying a couple of other restaurants. The hygiene at the restaurant is great. Everything is made in-house. I liked the soft paneer which is made in-house by the Chef and is fresh. The Chef even makes the nacho chips in-house and the food quality is at par with any 5-star restaurant in India.
I have lived in the US for more than 8 years and have tried a lot of Indian restaurants both on the East and the West Coast in Washington DC and San Francisco, but the taste of Indian food customized to my liking at Om Bistro was awesome and way better than any of the places in the US.
The service is great and some of the staff like Jiji are very courteous.
Kuldeep ji is an expert with a lot of dishes and I would highly recommend and give five stars to this restaurant and to the Chef. I would also highly recommend to visit and try it out for anyone staying in Addis either for a...
Read moreI accompanied a friend, who was fasting on the day and decided to go vegan out of respect. Btw, OM(pronounced Aum) is a vegan restaurant. Oh my God, after promising to eat a little, I eventually had a whole meal. The restaurant is a mix of the east and west and not the cliche indian decor. Very refreshing and comfortable venue, although a bit small, it was very cozy. The food quality is very high and delicious, is an understatement. I particularly loved the fresh green Chillies which is the only way to enjoy Indian food. The place is nostalgic and reminds me of my hometown Durban, South Africa 🇿🇦, where we are accustomed to such food. This is a must for anyone visiting Addis. Its also a good venue to treat your clients if they looking for something different. Also try the local wine, the Rift Valley is quite good. All together a fantastic experience. May go vegan...
