🌟 Abyssinia Yod Traditional Restaurant - Addis Ababa 🇪🇹
This was my third visit, and honestly… it never gets old. If you want to feel Ethiopia not just see it this is the place. The energy, the food, the people… it’s an experience that stays with you.
🍽 Food & Drinks: Let me just say it the injera here is the best I’ve ever had. Soft, fresh, full of character. The veggies, gravies, sauces each bite felt like a warm hug. I tried the fried goat, I’ll be honest, a bit on the chewy side for me. But everything else on that table made me forget it. And then came the coffee… my goodness! ☕ Strong, rich, almost magical. The kind of coffee that jolts you back to life and those popcorns on the side? A delightful touch. Add good wine, great company, and it was simply a night to remember.
💃 Entertainment: The dancers were phenomenal. Even as someone who’s not a big fan of Ethiopian cultural music I couldn’t help but smile, clap, and get drawn in. The passion, the joy… it’s infectious. You feel it in your bones.
👥 Service: The staff? Just lovely. Always smiling, always checking on us, always making sure we were happy. I really appreciated that.
💡 Ambience & Practicalities: ✨ The lighting was warm and inviting. ✨ I felt safe and comfortable all through the evening. ✨ We had a big table, seating was sorted, though yeah chairs could be a bit more comfy. ✨ Washrooms — clean, had tissue, but could definitely use a little love in terms of design or touch-up. 🚕 The place is a bit tucked away maybe not the easiest to walk to from the hotel, but cabs are easy to find. So no biggie.
💬 Final thoughts: Even if Ethiopian cuisine or cultural music isn’t your thing please don’t skip this place. The experience is 5⭐. It’s the kind of memory that defines your trip. Just fix up the toilets a bit, and maybe upgrade those chairs… otherwise, perfection. 👉 Tips for fellow travelers: 📌 Book ahead if you’re coming with a group — it can get busy. 📌 Come hungry. Come open-minded. 📌 Don’t rush off — stay for the coffee ceremony. Trust me. 🎯 Would I go back? Without a doubt. Again and again. Because this is the heart of Ethiopia.

Read moreThe place was great in the past now customer service has gone down. Today we went for lunch with my sister. The food was good but we had humiliating experience when leaving the restaurant.
We were served by a female customer service employee who was attentive and great, once a while a male team member keeps coming to check how we are doing. After finishing our lunch and paid our bill we were leaving when the male staff member met us at the door and asked if we have paid the bill, that I politely said yes and told him “we will wait here until you check and confirm with your colleagues” and waited. The female customer service came and apologised profoundly for the behaviour of her colleague but the male staff member hid behind the wall and never apologised for chasing us thieves.
What a shambolic, he couldn’t check first but assumed customers in their 50s and 60s are considered as thieves and has to chase us without checking the facts. Not sure what gave him an indication from our looks or ways of walking saying thank you to the team that he thought he would chase us.
The restaurant is a place for dodgers. May be we were in the wrong restaurant.
Shame on you!
For us so many places in Addis who would treat their customers properly and do not have prejudice.
By the way since I was so disappointed I decided to record the encounter. I...
Read moreDancing People usually come here for the song and dance show and it's absolutely incredible!! When we arrived the show was on and it went on for more than 3 hours since we got there. The dancers have crazy skills and it's something that should definitely not be missed! You will be mesmerized the whole time!
Ambiance This is large restaurant with lots of locals and foreigners alike. You will be given a seat around a communal table to share the food with your friends/family. It can be a little cramped in some spots as it's quite popular and filled with people. People are both dressed up and dressed down so you can do whatever you like. Our first waiter didn't understand much English but then he sent over someone who could and they totally accommodated our needs.
Food I got the vegetarian platter with Shiro on the side. Everything on the platter was incredible but of course Shiro was the best! If you want vegetarian food, just say fasting food and they'll understand. But fasting food means there's also no dairy in any of the food.
