Medhanealem Cathedral — Attraction in Addis Ababa

Clean and pretty.

The security guards sometimes hassle foreigners when you're taking photos. It's irritating because I saw locals taking photos and they didn't say anything to the them.

There are also pick pockets right outside the cathedral so be careful... They usually stand in a group. One guy will point at a magazine on one side of you pretending like he's trying to sell you something while another guy will grab your arm on the other side. When you turn toward the guy grabbing your arm, the guy on the other side will grab something from your pocket and slip it in his magazine. It's a very common trick the pick pockets use in Ethiopia...

The other thing they sometimes do is spit on you, pretend it was by accident, tell you not to touch it because they have TB, help you clean it up with water, and then empty your pockets while...

The cathedral itself looks good but the surrounding gate around the compound is filthy, and there are pickpockets all over the area. You wouldn't believe me, but i witnessed a "lady" pull down her pants, and for lack of a better term... poop on the sidewalk right next to one of the gates 🤮💩😷 There is garbage all around the place and the amount of homeless beggers is saddening being that it looks like the cathedral has money. This area is 100% not safe at night, there are no lights and countless people sleeping all around the compound. Something wrong is going on here and they...

It is a very spiritual place, its not an old bulding but its very beautiful specially inside. There is a program every morning, its even bigger program on sunday morning, it get very crowded especially for people with cars. Please be careful with your purse because not all people are there to enjoy the spiritually and the beauty of the place. But other than that ethiopian people are very friendly and the nicest people you could ever find. So have...
