The Sunday Book Bazaar at Abids is worth getting up early for. No really! With second hand books starting at prices as low as INR 10, you never know what you are going to find. But i assure you that you will go back with a huge bag of books. The footpath stretching from Chermas, Abids towards General Post Office (GPO) is filled with activity. Not sparing a single Sunday morning, the book bazaar here stirs life into Abids which otherwise remains closed on Sundays. For years now, book-crazy folks have been visiting it for some serious hoarding of tomes. With National Geographicâs hardbound magazines dating back to the 70s and the 80s sold at INR 50 per copy, magazine collectors can go as much nostalgic as they want.
Some of these books are gems â Christian Diorâs biography, Still, Life by Praneet Soi, Modern German Painting and Sculpture, Whoâs Who In The Theatre, Treasury of Stamps etc. are sold from INR 99. Latest trends like Rupi Kaur, Riverdale (INR 10) also share space with old goodies like Danielle Steele, Charles Dickens, Erich Segal. While most of these books are priced between INR 100 to INR 200, you can get a good bargain deal if youâre purchasing more than two books from the same vendor. I also found plenty of books on advertising, political history, and art.
Now, these are really old books, so you might find a few loose pages here and there, but they are definitely worth getting home for the richness of information. Readerâs Digest and National Geographicâs paperback versions are sold at INR 10. If youâre someone who likes their Tinkle (INR 10) and Archie Comics (INR 30), you can happily buy tons of these. Teenage choices like Sweet Valley High, Hanna Montana are found between INR...

Famous Ice Cream at Mouzam Jahi Market was once an institutionâsynonymous with pure, authentic fruit-based ice creams that tasted like a slice of Hyderabadâs heritage. The richness of real fruit, the natural flavors, and the unmatched quality made it a go-to destination for ice cream lovers across generations. Unfortunately, those golden days seem to have melted away.
In an attempt to keep up with market trends, Famous Ice Cream appears to have abandoned its core values. The once-beloved fresh fruit ice creams have been replaced with synthetic, artificial flavors that leave an unpleasant aftertaste. The purity that defined their legacy is now overshadowed by chemical-laden alternatives, stripping away the very essence of what made them âFamousâ in the first place.
The shift isnât just disappointingâitâs a betrayal of the loyal customers who cherished its authenticity. Instead of setting a benchmark, they are now following the crowd, compromising quality for commercial gains. Itâs disheartening to see a brand that thrived on tradition succumb to foul market practices.
For those who remember the true Famous Ice Cream, the difference is stark. The once-refreshing mango, sitaphal (custard apple), and lychee flavorsâbursting with real fruitâare now mere shadows of their former selves. If this trend continues, Famous risks losing not just its reputation but also the trust of its long-time patrons.
One can only hope they realize their mistake before itâs too late. Bring back the purity, bring back the real fruit, and bring back the legacyâbefore the name âFamousâ becomes a...
