Golden Leaf Asian Cuisine — Restaurant in Helsinki sub-region

Following the positive advice on Tripadvisor we chose to visit the Golden Leaf, located on Fredrikinkatu 47, just 5 minutes walk from Kamppi.

At lunchtime in the restaurant was empty so we could choose our own table. As soon as we sat down one of the employees began using the vacuum cleaner, a few meters away from us. We had to wait about 10 minutes for someone to come take our order 'cuz everyone was...cleaning With visible communication problems, the waiter asked us if we speak Finnish because he doesn't understand English and always answering with " yes, yes" .

What we liked The food was very delcious and the portions generous.

Inside the restaurant, although small, it is comfortable and welcoming.

What we didn't liked Service, we was treated with indifference and even though there was no one inside the restaurant , no employee was there when you needed them.

The ambient, there is no music and the noise made by employees was scratching your brain

The obsession of waitress to clean everything. She was taking everything from the tables, including the soy sauce and the hot sauce. When we asked them back twice, each time she waited beside the table to take them back .

We had to pay tap water. To understand how big deal it is, in some cities over Finland, the residents aren't even paying the water and in any restaurant you go the tap water is free of charge.

Definitely we will never...

The food wasn’t as good as I remembered it to be or just the experience this time made everything felt bad.

There was a dish on the menu called 煎釀三寶. It had either no chili sign or one, can’t remember. So we thought it wasn’t that spicy. Turns out part of the dish was very spicy. We had a misunderstanding as in why we needed milk with the short-hair waitress. The waitress thought we just ordered milk but it actually was because the menu wasn’t clear enough on how spicy the food is. One of our friend asked about why we have to pay for the milk. As we were clearing up the misunderstanding, the waitress was very impatient and with a very bad tone of voice asked : are you saying that you shouldn’t pay for the milk? That’s no customer service at all. Milk was just 3 euro, it wasn’t about the money but the attitude…

The food was quite ok yet not wow for this price. In any case, I doubt that I’ll ever go back again because of this experience.

Edit (to reply to the restaurant’s explanation): even if the ingredients is different every time, you should still warn customer about the possibility of it being very spicy but there was nothing written on the menu which misleads people to think that it’s not spicy at all. Plus for any customer service, you simply don’t argue with customer for a glass of milk. But who knows, maybe the restaurant doesn’t need...

Golden Leaf ravintola on mielenkiintoisessa paikassa toisten ravintoloiden välissä, pieni, siisti ja hyvin pelkistetty. Oma kokemuksemme ei vastannut saamaamme vinkkiä tästä herkullisen kiinalaisuuran ravintolasta, kaikilta osin. Kun menimme sisään oli ravintolassa kaksi pois lähtevää asiakasta, joten jäimme sinne kaksistaan. Kun olisin valinnut pöydän, missä oli mausteet hammastikut jne, meidät tultiin ohjaamaan tyhjään pöytään, missä näitä ei ollut. Saimme ruokalistat, missä oli kymmenittäin erilaisia annoksia ja niin pienellä tekstillä, että ravintolan valaistuksessa ruokalistoja oli hyvin hankalaa lukea. Tilauksen jälkeen ruokaa odotellessa ravintolan suhteellisen matala lämpötila tuli huomioitua. Kun tilasimme annokset, ruoka tuli normaalissa ajassa, mutta ensin vain vieraalleni. Koska kyseessä oli lämmin ruoka kehoitin häntä aloittamaan. Oma annokseni saapuminen kesti jonkin verran kauemmin. Olin iloinen kauniista tarjoilulautasen kattauksesta ja runsaasta annoksesta. Annos maistuikin oikein hyvältä, liha oli mureaa, maukasta ja kastike kruunasi maun. Tarjoilulautanen oli kuitenkin yhtä kylmä kuin ruokailulautanen ja niinpä liha ja lisukkeet olivat hetken perästä todella kylmiä. Kuten tiedetään, kylmä kala vielä menettelee, mutta kylmä liha ei enää ole herkullista ja näin kävi tässäkin. Mausteita joilla kylmenevää ruokaa olisi voinut vähän "tulistaa", ei pöydässämme olltu, joten mausteita en lähtenyt hakemaan itse toisista pöydistä, meille kun niitä ei tuotu. Aterian jälkeen annoin selkeän palautteen kylmästä tarjoilulautasesta ja lihan maun "katoamisesta" kylmässä ruuassa. Palaute otettiin ystävällisesti vastaan. Ainakaan ennen kesän lämpöisiä en ole kiinnostunut...
