There aren't many Vietnamese style restaurants in Jyväskylä, so this might be the place to visit. Unfortunately, it is only lunch buffet restaurant and open only on weekdays from 10:30 to 15:00. Closed on saturdays and sundays.
Food: Having just returned from Vietnam, Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City, i was expecting a trip back to four weeks ago. There were reminiscents of the foods i had in Vietnam, but i expected a bit more. Understandably, it is incredibly difficult to incorporate the same spices and intensity to the dishes as some of the ingredients may or may not be available. Don't get me wrong, i did like it. Starter salad was cool and fresh. The chicken meat ball soup was great. It had so much meat that you have to use the ladle to get the tasty broth too. The soup was a star, 5/5. Fried egg noodles and veggies were a bit dry. The rice was completely dry and almost like small stones, what a shame (put some broth on top to soak them). The fried vegan rice was very delicious though. Green curry beef was very nice. Vegan spring rolls a bit dull. Wok mushrooms and vegs were nice. Tempura shrimp and sweet potato was cold and a bit hard. Panang curry pork was good. Ginger chicken was definetely the second best one 4.5/5. Coffee nice and good tasting. However, no dessert. Just a green marmalade ball. There are some issues that could be easily fixed. Lunch buffet typical Price 13.50€/pp. The food is a 3.5/5.
Service: Greeted on arrival. Pay at the counter. Choose a seat and get your plate and pick what you want. Meanwhile a pitcher of cold water has appeared at the table. After finishing (unlike the young women at the table next to me), i returned the plates, utensils, coffee mug and the glass to the collection point. When leaving i was thanked for visiting. 4/5.
Atmosphere: The place is clean and tidy. What delighted me the most was the clear crisp white and light colours. It suits the inner structure. It is a spacious place despite being like a small diner. What i mean by this is that there is plenty of room, so you are not cramped and bumping into other customers even if the tables were full. Relaxed feeling. Some modern radio (pop/rap) was on, not too loud. Did not actually fit (pun intended) the place but it did not bother anyone either. 5-/5.
Overall: i have no clue of the restrooms as there was no need to use one. There isn't much service because you help yourself. There are some issues with the dishes that can be fixed. Price is typical. Location a bit hidden but really a few minutes walk from the center and travel center. It is kind of a trip to Vietnamese cuisine but could be a bit more. It's a...
Read moreFirst of all, the food is delicious. However, it was unexpected. I have only eaten at Vietnamese restaurants in L.A. and Seoul and the most common food I associated with Vietnamese food was Bahn Mi, Pho (soup), and a variety of cold stir-fry salads. The food offered at the lunch buffet during my two visits to Fit was, on those particular days, seaweed-tofu soup, western-style salad (iceberg lettuce and cucumber), and a variety of stir-fry. I would classify this experience as "delicious fresh food", "chef-owner food preparation", and "asian fusion".
Overall the vibe I got was family-owned: server was able to help us in Finnish and English, and pleasantly asked about our visit. The restaurant is recessed a bit underground on the first floor with windows overlooking the city's forested hill, and the aesthetic for the design is not overburdened, very minimalist, and bright. The bathrooms were spotless and seemed newly renovated when I visited. A worker went in after I had used the WC, and again after another customer had used it; it seems that they clean after every restroom visit.
Overall I can recommend this place for fresh and healthy food. I can not vouch for the its authenticity, given I have not ever...
