During our short road trip to Fiskars and Ekenäs we felt we want some coffee. It is a long time since I visited Ekenäs and my wife started googling. She was a bit concerned about some reviews and comments online that suggested we shoud avoid the place.

I felt that we had such a good trip so far that it is impossible that we would be disappointed here.

In an early Satuday evening the big place was almost empty, with some patrons still already inside and others coming. We got a very friendly reception right at the counter. Really helpful attitude towards my wife's food allergies helped us to choose our set for coffee. They had Sacher tart and even the genuine Alexander's tart which is my favourite. So a double espresso for me and a hot tea for my wife on the side, and we sat down to enjoy our evening coffee with pastries, and of course the scenery.

We had a friendly chat on our way out, and I got some insight what might have caused the bad remarks. We did experience an excellent service and friendliness throughout. It is worth noting that we dropped in just for a coffee, and got a perfect reception regardless.

In my book this is a place worth remembering when we come here in Summer with our guests...

Food standard is not on par with this venues prices. Portion size is at times very absurd, we had to share a single bowl of potatoes for 2 steak entrees. That meant that you were essentially served 3 small potatoes each with a steak that was pretty basic. Would recommend this place highly if only the food quality and portion sizes were better matched with the high pricing model. Staff are very friendly but it did seem that they were a bit overwhelmed with just half capacity of potential guests. I would not go here during peak hours, the only amazing thing about this place is the harbor location that in the evenings features a spectacular sunset over the water. As it is right now though I am not coming back for...

I ordered a "Lamb tartar with horseradish cheese cake and onion crème". The lamb "tartare" was old and overcooked, oversalted cut mutton. How can you call that a tartar??! We sent it out and were told that many people were probably surprised that a tartar does not consist of red meat... There it is on the list anyway. Low.

The main course, wild duck, was heavily overcooked and dry and almost drowned in a tasteless sauce that had seen way too much Maizena flour…

The second main course, GH's club toast with charcoal-grilled beef tenderloin and truffle mayonnaise was tasty. However, the mayonnaise hadn't met the truffle in the last year.

It's a shame that a restaurant with such a great location doesn't try...

It has a very fancy feeling. Right on the water with excellent views! And a very well designed interior. The staff are all friendly and speak good English. Quick service and nice table settings. The cutlery is particularly nice! The fish soup was excellent; no complaints at all. Open-faced burger was likewise very good but rather plain. Fries which came with this were warm; but rather tough. The panna cotta was quite concerning. Frozen, grainy, and quite small for the price. The flavors and presentation were excellent however. Overall the whole restaurant was a nice experience, but considering the price it was not to the standard I would expect.

Mainly because the restaurant we selected, restaurant Albatros, was closed for lunch (even though it was marked open on-line!) we ended up at this restaurant and it couldn't have been better. Welcome and service was friendly and we were seated at a great table facing the harbour. From the extended menu we selected a fish soup, a local shrimp salad and a baked white fish All food was exquisite and well presented Definitely a venue highly recommended to those after a great local culinary experience in the perfect location !
