Want a charming hotel with great views across the sea? Don’t come here! Hotel is dark, dismal and dirty! Website photos are from a different era/owner there is no correlation to how the hotel looks now. We had booked a room at Mado on the hotels website – Big Mistake! On arrival the reception was untidy and dismal so I asked to see the room. The stair carpet was dirty and the walls damaged. The room was shabby and the bed looked like someone had been laying on it. I explained that the hotel and room were not to the standard as advertised on their website and I was not happy to stay. The receptionist/owner seemed bemused but confirmed that was OK and that no money had been taken and when asked suggested other hotels we might try to get a room. I later received an email acknowledging our cancelation and stating that there was no money had been taken and nothing was due to be paid. However, a few days later I noticed that the full room rate €159.00 had been taken from my bank account. As I had booked through their own website I only had them to challenge as to their right to take the payment. After several attempts to contact them via phone, website and email I only received a cursory message on their website that it was there policy not to accept cancellation While I accept it is fair to charge for a no show it is NOT acceptable to charge for a room that does not meet acceptable standards or differs greatly from that being advertised. Read moreWe stayed here on spec, as it had not been written up before on TripAdvisor. It is right on the quiet front but you have to pay to park outside - luckily if you overpay one day, it carries on to the next day, saving you having to run downstairs early on to prevent a fine. There are plenty of other restaurants, fish shops etc a minute's walk away. Le Crotoy has more of an old fashioned feel to it, than the manmade resorts further north and south like Le Touquet, Berck-Plage and Le Treport, etc||||We found the staff friendly and helpful, especially to "rosbifs" whose French is not brilliant. Bedrooms are on the top floor above the first floor (summer only?) restaurant, so if you have heavy cases, or are elderly, this hotel is not for you. ||||Lovely views from our compact but stylish bedroom over the estuary and salt flats - take your binoculars! Room was clean with flat screen TV, ensuite etc.||||We dined in the restaurant which was excellent, and it was nice to see the restaurant busy on a weekday lunchtime out of season as we checked in. Their website gives more details. The room was 68 Euros which is quite reasonable and breakfast a cheap 6 Euros, but the latter is pretty basic : fruit juice - no choice, french bread, croissants, tea or coffee.||||Their website only shows 3 rooms, so probably booking ahead is wise.||||Strongly recommended by us...
