My wife and I recently had lunch at Restaurant d’Amour on Cours Mirabeau, one of the main walking boulevards in Aix-en-Provence, France. Even though it was busy when we arrived for lunch at 12:30 PM, we were placed at a nice two-seater bistro table on the terrace under the large outdoor awning. Even though our table was small and there were many patrons at the time, we didn’t feel cramped. We both order Aperol Spritz for drinks, which has become our go-to libation during this vacation in France. My wife ordered the spicy tuna tartar, with avocado, which she said was outstanding. Read moreI was here a few days ago. I sat in the back and ate two appetizers that were perfect. I happened to have a front row view of the kitchen. It was impressively serious, spotlessly clean and clearly well run. The service could simply not have been better. Everyone was professional, timely and helpful without being overbearing. The rigatoni pasta are less than average. Luckily, the bread, the bottled sauces and the valeriana salad were good - it showed they were not made in house.
The beef tartar is processed and has the texture of a paste. It was not seasoned at all. Maybe this is a different way of making it, but definitely not our cup of tea.
