I give 1 star only because it's not possible to give none and because the rooms are beautifully decorated. It's such a pity that this restaurant looks so good but has awfully mediocre food and, most importantly, even worse service. I have been there with friends almost 2 weeks ago and had a really bad experience. My friends sandwiches were bland, all the ingredients were dry, just like the chips we ordered. We ordered homemade mayonnaise, it costs 0.60€, which I would be ok paying if the mayonnaise quality would be good. It wasn't, I tried a little bit and it was flavourless with a thick layer of grease on top of it, as if it would have been made and let sit in the fridge for months. When the waiter (who until then had a very rude facial expression and tone of voice while talking to us and literally threw our cutlery and plates on the table) saw that I didn't eat the mayonnaise and he yelled at me saying "Eat it! Its homemade!". Absolutely awful. The young girls working there were nice, but they had offered us one plate of small pastry with onions on top or something like that which was unbelievably dry (of course this was not fault of the waitresses). All the food we tried looked worse that what you find at the supermarket, just more expensive. I definetly suggest you to go somewhere else, even to the supermarket, food is better and employees are nicer. This restaurant's service and food should match the beauty of it's interiors. And the staff should learn how to...
Read moreA bad experience!! My husband ordered a chef salad but just the look of it raised our suspicions: a pile of tired salad leaves covered with ham and cheese ‘cubes’ that looked like they were cut in the air with jungle knives. All ingredients could have been from low price shelf of any bad quality supermarket. The whole thing was covered with two decilitres of yellow mayonnaise. My husband had to leave to take a walk. Later he had to eat dinner in an other restaurant. Amazed, I tasted the salad but my husband was right: it was unbearable. Everything was lukewarm like it could have been sitting on a counter for hours in near 40 degree outside temperature. A potential health risk with the hilltop of mayonnaise.
I complained to the owner, asking a cut in the price but he refused, saying that many people loved it. He was rude to me.
I left and will not return. I had a very nice lunch salad next door in an italian restaurant called IT_france or something close. Cool ambience, fresh food and the guaranteed...
Read moreBar Le Grillon, conveniently located in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, offers a mix of positives and areas for improvement.
On the positive side, the food was a pleasant surprise. My Filet Sauce Grillon and frites were very good, and we enjoyed a fine wine that complemented the meal well. It was one of the few places open for a late dinner after we arrived late at our hotel, which was much appreciated.
While Bar Le Grillon is conveniently located and offers some good food options, the service could be improved, as the wait staff were occasionally inattentive. Additionally, the cleanliness could be better maintained. However, if you’re looking for a place to dine late and don’t mind these minor drawbacks, it’s still a viable option. There are many other charming spots in Aix-en-Provence, but Bar Le Grillon remains a decent choice for a...
