Today, I tried the famous Orange Blossom Gibassier from this bakery. It cost 15 €. It is a good bakery product, nothing special.
On the other hand, I would like to evaluate its price by comparing it with French and French-made bakery products and also with pizzas (due to the inappropriate and meaningless comparisons made by the baker with "pizza" in the comments).
Did you know that the breads from the bakery that was chosen as the best artisan baker of the year are sent to the President every morning at the Elysée Palace? You can buy about 5 special breads or about 13 baguettes from the bakery of Boulangerie Utopie, which was awarded this award in Paris this year. In the past 10 years, I, as a consumer, have never seen a bakery that has won this award, charge €15 for a bakery product. This price is the price of a dessert prepared by a special dessert chef at a Michelin star restaurant. This price is the price that the Ritz's dessert chef, world-famous François Perret, charges for the desserts he sells in his boutique (his bakery products are much cheaper). World-famous Pierre Herme, Cedric Grolet, Alain Ducasse sell desserts at these prices, not bread. Pierre Herme was assigned to make desserts for the King of England at the Versailles Palace this year, and let alone a slice of bread, even his desserts are cheaper than this product.
Now, about the pizza. When I bought TAKE OUT for the most famous dip dish pizza slice in Chicago, I paid $3.50. In New York, one of the best was $4. In Rome, the slice of the best Roman style pizza at the world famous Bonci (which is very expensive) was cheaper than that. In Naples, if you sit down and eat a Margarita pizza at an award-winning pizzeria, you can get up for less than that. At Paris Peppe, which was chosen as the best pizzeria in Europe last year, if you eat a Margarita pizza in the shop, it costs 12€. Moreover, pizza is a meal, a lunch or dinner, it has meat and cheese products, vegetables and sauce on it. This guy is just selling a loaf of bread and comparing it to pizza by saying "even pizza is this price". That must be a joke.
By the way, of course, no one forced me, and I was not concerned about affordability of it, I didn't even care about the price, I would still buy it if it was 30€. Because I was a curious tourist in this village and therefore naturally I am open to being fooled by cunning shopkeepers who sell their products for much more than they should be. But if the price I pay for a product is disproportionate to the quality and taste I get from it, I will happily criticize it. In my opinion, the price of this product can be a maximum of 5€. And that is because it is in a touristic place. Otherwise, even that is too much.
If you are ready to pay 15€ for a mediocre bread that is smaller and lighter than a pizza and sold in a vacuum bag,...
Read moreA minute before the store closes I was there and bought a bread and a “Navettes” (delicious flat, slightly sweet flatbread). Both were super delicious. The bread is similar to some rustic baguettes, but more like a German sourdough bread (maybe because it is one). A beautiful but thin crust and inside fluffy soft and slightly “juicy”.
Personnel was very friendly even right...
