Rudest Waiter ever encountered (waiter was male, middle aged, tanned, slim).
We turned up. I asked to use wifi but got told abruptly “NO IT’s PRIVATE” (no: “oh sorry sir it’s for staff only”). Then he said in French (even though we had all previous conversation in English (and he was fluent) about how we should be looking at mountains - not on the Wi-Fi on mobile phones (apparently it’s a restaurant saying) and then repeats this in English with his back to us as he starts to walk away. We told him we needed it to contact our friends to meet us here and we can’t get in contact - his sole response sarcastically “that’s a shame” (in French again - fortunately we had people fluent in french in the group).
After 20 minutes of totally ignoring us (literally not a glance - I kept my eye on him as I was starving), and us enquiring to another waiter about when we would get served….but being told that only the original waiter can serve us, we decided to leave as clearly this charade was all being done on purpose by him to make us feel uncomfortable.
We took time on purpose to get up to leave so we could give them some feedback - all the waiters seemed conveniently ‘busy’ by the bar as I’m sure they knew we were going to complain about the terrible service (they were outside most the previous 20 minutes). I went in and told them we were leaving as no one had come to check on us for 20mins since we arrived. The original waiter storms up to me saying he had been checking up on us (a blatant lie). He told me that we had a big group of 8 people as though this is a good reason - if they can’t accommodate ‘big groups’ perhaps this could have been communicated at the start. He then said “clearly there is nothing I can do to make you happy in life”. I told him if he had been vaguely polite and visited our table within 20 minutes of us being there -even just letting us know how long until he serves us- then it would have made me happy, and I don’t feel that is too much to ask of a waiter.
On parting as I told him: I am a pilot; I’ve travelled the globe for 10 years; eaten out more frequently than most people do in a lifetime; and I have never encountered such rude service in my life. …and I stand by that.
This guy clearly likes to belittle people who either don’t speak French or he believes don’t speak French. He’s extremely bitter…about customers …and probably life in general. Quite why this waiter is still employed with them is I am not sure…
….fortunately it’s not my concern as I will...
Read moreFood was excellent but service ruined everything for me. The male waiter we had was unbelievably rude and condescending on arrival because we dared to slightly straighten our table. When I asked why he felt this rudeness was necessary, he said "customers are rude, you're rude. I'm very good at my job and your opinion is nothing". Sorry, but manners do define how 'good' you are in the service industry. This treatment shadowed my experience completely - such a shame because the other staff seemed lovely and the food was delicious when it arrived. Had it not been a very busy lunchtime in the area, we would've left and missed...
