This place came recommended by a friend, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to our expectations. While the initial welcome was pleasant, it quickly became clear that our waiter was new and struggling with the ordering device. A colleague was assisting him, but the situation felt awkward — we weren’t sure whether to wait patiently or step in. A simple explanation that he was in training would have helped set the right expectations from the start.
We did enjoy our starters, sharing three dishes among the five of us. For the main course, we ordered seafood platters. I mentioned to one of the waiters that the periwinkles seemed undercooked. He said he would let the chef know, but after ten minutes with no response, I followed up. The waiter then told me the chef believed everything was fine. I politely insisted that something was off, and he said he would inform the manager.
The manager arrived promptly, tasted the periwinkles himself, and agreed they were indeed undercooked. He apologised sincerely, offered to replace them, and kindly gave us a complimentary dessert as a gesture of goodwill.
Despite this, the overall experience felt mediocre. While the manager handled the situation well, it highlighted a need for better staff training, particularly in communication and handling...
Read moreI can’t praise this restaurant enough! We came here twice last week, and twice the year before. Definitely a friendly and delicious restaurant that’s not to be missed while you’re visiting Cap Ferret.
I think they’ve elevated themselves from last year. It was great the year before, but there was more sophistication and attention to detail this time around! I noticed it especially in the plating/presentation and their desserts.
The meal itself was superb. The razor clams were tender and wonderfully seasoned. Not overly seasoned... the clams were the star. The grilled fish was cooked perfectly. Not even a bit over cooked! Do they add crack to their fries? Because those were killer. I was shaking for more. Then I ordered the chiboust fig tarte. Oh lord... I came back specially to enjoy that again.
The location is perfect. If you’re here right before sunset, you can view the water. It’s a peaceful spot. If it’s warm enough, sit outside and enjoy your meal on the terrace.
Service is friendly and top notch. As busy as it got, the servers were attentive and offered spot on advice for wine.
I can’t wait for my next trip to cap ferret. Coming here was one of...
Read moreI enjoyed our dinner at Le Bouchon du Ferret. It's a solid go for the area, great quality products and decent (albeit not abundant...) portions. We got a beer, a drink, 2 starters, 2 fish dishes and a dessert for 140 EUR. While the price is okay for the area, I would have appreciated a slightly bigger portion for that. The starter was trying its best to be "gastronomique": a sea bream ceviche with mango and a coconut mousse. My girlfriend loved it, I found the mousse a bit too acid and overall slightly off-balance. The main (turbot with an artichoke cannellone) was good but not extraordinary (and over 36 EUR). Dessert, though, was a true 5/5! And they all looked amazing
Bottom line: very nice staff, good products, okay price for Le Cap Ferret and a tendency to look for a gastronomic experience though I am taking a small star away because I think it's not there yet and portions could be a bit bigger! However, still a solid...
