Le Bistrot de l'église - Chez Babeth. — Restaurant in Arles

I don't usually write reviews, but after 80 plus days travelling and eating out, this dining experience was our worst. We had a 7.30 booking for 4 people and arrived around 7.40. The restaurant seats around 3 dozen and there were 3 vacant tables. These were filled around 8-8.15. We waited until 8.10 for a menu. Another 10 minutes wait to order drinks and place our food order. Our bottle of wine we selected was not available, only the much more expensive bottle. The starter we ordered from the small chalk board on our table was also not available. The two dishes (lamb) we ordered from the main chalkboard were also not available. Our meals were delivered at 9.15. We had drunk all our wine by then but dared not order anything else as the delay in service was getting ridiculous. All the other tables that arrived after us had their drinks and meal delivered within the hour. Our table was the last to receive meals. We were hoping the wait was worth it. Unfortunately our two duck dishes were terrible. Totally overcooked, dry, tough and completely smothered in a sauce. The vegetables were three stewed lumps of mushroom, peppers and zucchini. The potato frites were cold and soggy The two fish meals were excellent. Unfortunately one plate had two large fillets and the other one small piece. So no regard to portions and plating So overall a disastrous dining experience. The two chefs did come out after dinner to greet customers but our English and German was wasted on the critique so we just paid and left. So disappointed as other reviews were positive. We concluded the locals were looked after and we were second in line for food and service. It was only after we had an amazing dinner with a duck main dish at another restaurant later that week, that I reconsidered writing this review. Don't waste your money or time at...

I was on a week-long trip through Spain and France, and this was the best meal of my trip. The bull was delicious here. I had never had bull before, but the sauce with olives complimented it perfectly. I would definitely come back. The fries were perfectly crisp.
