L’Auberge du Fruit Défendu — Restaurant in Arrondissement of Nanterre

I visited this restaurant awhile ago. I am from Chicago, but have traveled the planet widely in my 65 years. Absolutley no one can compare to the French for cooking. This simple fine restaurant served me the best meal one night that I have ever had anywhere - and I mean anywhere - in the world, either before or since. It started with the unbelieveable bread. It was so good I just wanted to bury my face in it. With each passing course the earth moved, and it only went uphill from there. Everything here, from the food, to the location, to the ambiance and service is just........ Right. Tout d'abord : D'un point de vue purement logistique, cet hôtel est extrêmement bien situé, mais cela ne veut pas dire qu'il perd son charme et son atmosphère. Un endroit pour se sentir bien à tous égards : le sentiment de confort réellement plus allemand rencontre l'intimité française d'origine, pour laquelle il y a une raison aussi simple et factuelle que sincèrement convaincante. C'est le contact entre l'invité et le personnel et vice versa - un dialogue agréable, en aucun cas une rue à sens unique et certainement pas hiérarchisée. Les chambres sont d'autant plus spacieuses, et tous les employés de l'hôtel sont prêts et capables de performer sans exception ! Oui, et puis, bien sûr, une performance enchanteresse de la cuisine - juste (typiquement !) française sophistiquée ou ambitieuse à la française ! Ein Ort zum Wohlfühlen in jeder Hinsicht: Das eigentlich eher deutsche Gefühl von Gemütlichkeit trifft hier auf originär französische Intimität, wofür es eine ebenso simpel-sachliche wie herzlich überzeugende Begründung gibt. Es ist der Kontakt von Gast zum Personal und umgekehrt - ein schöner Dialog, beileibe keine Einbahnstraße und schon gar nicht hierarchisch aufgeplustert. We had a lovely Sunday lunch of traditional autumn fare including a delicious long cooked wild boar dish. The restaurant was very cosy and warm with a central open fireplace adding to the ambience. The caramel liegous dessert was to die for and the Ile Flottant was one of the prettiest any of us had ever seen as well as also being very good. The staff were very friendly and highly efficient. We had a 4 year old child with us who got top class attention and served her main course first and fast for which we were very grateful.
