The service was horrible - ruining the entire experience.
Great food - I'd recommend the veal chop and the chicken. My wife and I had both and they were great. Oysters were also amazing - as was the foil gras.
To be clear: we've found the service in France to generally be well above expectation. 90% of our service in France has been amazing - and we've found the servers to be attentive, engaged, and overall outstanding.
The only server on the night of April 23 was entirely different. In a quiet restaurant on a slow Sunday night - we were largely ignored by our server. Requests to order desert were dismissed with "no desert for you." After complaining about the delay - we continued to wait for 30 minutes for desert to arrive.
At this reportedly Michelin star restaurant - we ended up going to the bar to settle the bill - after waiting another 20 minutes. When we tried to voice our concern regarding the service - we were told that we needed to speak French (by the waiter who spoke English the entire night).
We love France. We love French foods and the restaurants. We don't expect impeccable service. However, when spending 400 Euros on a meal at a highly rated restaurant with great food - we expect that the service will match the food and the bill. Hoping that management sees this and addresses the very significant shortfall of service with the front of house employees.
Strongly recommend avoiding this establishment anytime soon. There appears to be 1 waiter for the dining room. And a high likelihood that you'll be confronted with the same service. The server seemed more engaged and responsive with the French customers - so perhaps if you're French you'll receive acceptable service here. Otherwise, stay away. We did not stay at the hotel. We only ate at...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for two nights in March.||||The hotel is on the quay at Port en Bessin, right opposite the harbour and fish market and the room had great views. The rooms are on the second and third floors above the restaurant and function room and there is no lift so don't stay here if you have problems with stairs.||||The reception staff are also the staff of the restaurant so you have to check in before 3pm or after 6pm as the restaurant is closed between those times. Once you have checked in you are given the code for the hotel door, next to the restaurant.||||In March there was plenty of free parking on the jetty opposite but I'm not sure whether this would be the case in high season - especially on market day!||||The room was very clean, fresh and modern but quite small. The bed was a normal double and comfortable. We were on the second floor and did manage to get wifi in the room even though we thought it was only going to be available in public areas.||||We thought that the price quoted for breakfast (10 euros) was expensive so didn't bother. There are a couple of cafes nearby where you can get breakfast for 5/6 euros.||||We ate in the restaurant on the first night. Service was good but we thought the menus were a little on the expensive side and some of the dishes were a bit odd. We had a much better dinner on the second night at one of the nearby restaurants.||||We had no complaints and the location is very central but I think we would probably look elsewhere if...
Read moreThe location is incredible - watching the scenic harbour of Port-en-Bassin Huppain, and the fish market. We had a sea view room - top left...||That being said, the hotel amenities are mediocre at best:||Rooms are small, ours shower had no closing for the tab. towels were quite small too... and it is time to refute the urban legend called "free WIFI". The network is available in the lobby at best.||The hotel restaurent is very good, but it is expensive! 9 EUR per person for the continental breakfast.||There are plenty of good places to eat around Port-en-Bassin, so do not limit yourselves.||There is a small but active fish market just across the street, but unless you are well-equipped for outdoor cooking, it's only for looks.||Make sure you cross the canal to the east and walk to the shell beach. it is a unique place. Also recommended is taking a walk up on the cliffs over the beach. Very tranquil and scenery is beautiful.||To finish up - the location is absolutely excellent for any of you who is interested in D-Day experience. I strongly recommend the battery in Longues-sur-mer - 5 minutes drive east from the Hotel; and Point d'Hoc - about 40 minutes drive to the west. ||BTW - the staff is very friendly and welcoming - not an obvious thing in France.||All-in-all: It was a good stay, we enjoyed it a lot (2 adults + 2...
