We've been to Selma Alabama twice for lunch since arriving in the region for two weeks, and I'd visit there every day if I could. The 'Oh my pancake' was basically a glorious, supercharged croque-madame, and the sweet pancake stack from the breakfast menu (Nutella, bananas, almonds and whipped cream) is delicious before you've so much as taken one bite. The freshly squeezed orange juice also deserves a special mention. Service was so friendly, attentive and patient on both occasions, particularly our server today (sorry I didn't get your name!) for whom nothing was too much trouble. The place itself is a cosy haven near the bottom of Rue Saint-Jean, just round the corner from the Bayeux Tapestry Museum and about ten minutes from the Cathedral, and feels welcoming the moment you walk in. A straight-up lovely place to go.
Edit - Third visit today before leaving Normandy; very happy customers. Thanks again SA - until next time!
July 2025 - Back again after two years, and two more visits later, SA is every bit as good as we remembered. Quality and portions of the food, ambience, location, and the staff especially (who remembered us!), are the best in town. Until next time - again... PS. Merci pour...
Read moreWe walked in to Selma Alabama and did not know anything. We left being friends with Owner Selma and her husband Gregory. Selma made us very tasty coffee and espresso. We also tried the banana bread. Since it was raining lightly we had the place alone and chatted about how Selma named her place. Seems she was impressed by the accomplishments of Martin Luther King and his leading the historic civil rights march through Selma, Alabama. Hence, the name of her restaurant. Fitting since it is her first name as well. The rain stopped and more people came in. Go say hi to Selma if you are in town. You will be greeted by a big smile and great coffee, and creative breakfast. They also operate small bed and breakfast for those needing accommodations in the...
Read moreI had breakfast here twice in my stay in Bayeux and both were enjoyable. Turkish eggs with yoghurt and then avocado toast with scrambled eggs and salmon. Pot of tea and chai latte were both excellent. I went back another time for chocolate lava cake (?) and it was gooey and chocolatey but I prefer it without the Chantilly cream on the side. Unfortunately due to the busy holidays my tea was forgotten but the nice owner gave the cake on the house which was unexpected. Happy to recommend them and nice to support a young independent business. Make you check out the pictures and quotations in...
