Marguerite — Restaurant in Bayonne

Came here 2 years ago and we were really impressed, so came back again this summer - really disappointed...would be surprised if this place is still here 2 years from now, which is a shame as the issues that make it 2 star should be easy to fix. The guys who run it are super nice, the place feels welcoming and warm - these are the reasons for the 2 stars. The pizza dough is good if a little bland. The tomato base is an absolute disaster - it's flavourless and somehow slightly sweet, when it should be strongly tomato and acidic. The mozzarella is an oily mess and far too much of it. The result is something you buy in the freezer of a supermarket and eat reluctantly, hating yourself. Really hope they can fix the awful tomato base and mozarella - maybe by going to Trallalla up the road to see how it should be done.

Edit: just reading the review below from the owner, who called my comments above "pointless" - seems to follow a similar depressing pattern to other reviews, where criticism can't be handled. Ok cool, well, good luck, and no problem if you don't recognise any of the issues I highlighted - if you're unable to take constructive criticism then I guess you won't be around when we're back next. Meanwhile, I'm going to have to cut you to 1 star to reflect...

We recently visited Marguerite place after reading all those positive reviews, but my experience left much to be desired. The atmosphere was quite disappointing. The place felt cramped, making it hard to enjoy a meal comfortably, sticky tables…

Fantastic local pizza joint. Always happy when I see bags of flour - in this case T55 and Reynard semolina. I was not disappointed. Fantastic thin base gorgeously chewy with generous fresh toppings. Good chilli oil (can often be a disappointment but not here! 🌶️) Beers available but as we were carb loading pre Biarritz half marathon we opted for homemade lemonade - nicely sharp!
