We ordered two entrecote steaks and neither was to our liking. The first steak was ordered medium and it was fully raw inside. After sending it back to the kitchen the same, already cut, steak was cooked to over medium (mostly to well done) and it lost all the moisture and juices inside and was chewy. The other steak was also not as ordered. After paying 26 euros for a steak we expected it to be changed after the chef's failure. The staff explained to us that changing the steak was "impossible" and only gave a -10% discount. Neither steak was even close to being tender, although some of it is forgiven due to the cut.
Great service even though the servers didn't speak any English. Our server was really polite, friendly and ready to help when needed.
Local wine was also great and atmosphere was nice and friendly.
Our bill came to just under 105€ after the discount. We ordered the two steaks, two glasses of champagne, two beers and two glasses (28cl) of...
Read moreStopped off for lunch during a day trip to Biarritz based on the guide book recommendation. The manager was very friendly we had a good chat about London as he spent many years there in restaurants, but onto the food and service here...the food was decent and fairly priced, my wife and I we had the menu de jour, fish and mash with thyme both of which were tasty and I had the entrecote with fries which was on the rare side of "medium" I had requested but this is France and it was flavoursome so we both had clean plates and at 15 euro per dish there is no reason for any dissatisfaction. My daughter had the veal rib in a very tasty tomato and aubergine sauce, the veal was very tender and the sauce was well balanced(not too "tart" which can be with tomatoes). Overall I recommend this although I noticed the young waitress had been a little frosty when greeting us, luckily it was the manager who took our order and he was...
Read moreI was directed to Le Café du Commerce by another café, when I was looking for breakfast during my recent New Year's trip to Biarritz. The café is very cozy and I loved the inside decor with its wooden chairs and tables. I ordered scrambled eggs, toast, and fresh squeezed orange juice. The orange juice looked cloudy, which I thought was odd. The scrambled eggs looked OK – it seemed very yellow as if missing egg whites – and I ate the breakfast. Later that day, I was struck by violent diarrhea and even vomited in the train station! This has never happened to me before, to just projectile vomit! I hope to be fair. But the breakfast at Le Café du Commerce was the only big meal I had that day. Later, at a different place, I had a coffee and a small piece of Basque cake. So, I'm not sure if I picked up the food poisoning from the different café. Sad situation. I really loved the coziness of Le Café...
