The Perfect Base Camp for UTMB and a Chamonix Stay
After an extensive search for the right place to stay for my UTMB race, I chose the Aiguille du Midi hotel, and it turned out to be an excellent decision.
From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. We got in late without having eaten, and the staff kindly prepared a simple but delicious plate of ham, cheese, and vegetables for us—a gesture we truly appreciated.
The highlight was waking up on our first morning, drawing the curtains, and being greeted by a breathtaking, panoramic view of the Mont Blanc massif. We booked a superior room, and it was worth it for the extra space and that unforgettable vista.
The breakfast buffet is incredible value and a must-have. For nearly the same price as a coffee and pastry in town, you get a vast spread including coffee, cereals, yogurt, fresh crepes, juices, bread, cheeses, eggs, and cold cuts. We started every day fully fueled.
The hotel grounds are fantastic, featuring a large swimming pool, a tennis court, and plenty of green space to relax or wander. It’s a great environment for both families and pets.
Location-wise, it's very convenient. The hotel is just 120-150from two bus stops and 150m from the Les Bossons train station. A major perk is the free train pass to Chamonix provided by the hotel, though the scenic 3km walk into town is also a great option for exercise.
Although we didn't eat lunch/dinner at the hotel, it's great to know they're available. Note that while there's no water in the room, complimentary water is provided in the restaurant downstairs. Also laundry services are available for about 10euros (washing and drying) but I saw I sign in the laundry room that reads 8euros. Maybe they increased the price😉
I wouldn't hesitate to return and highly recommend the Aiguille du Midi to anyone visiting the area. * During the UTMB event every hotel tend to be more expensive. Make sure you...
Read moreHotel Aiguille du Midi is located below the Bossons glacier to the right of the Aiguille du Midi and the left of Mont Blanc and offers a stunning view of both. The hotel has been in the same family for five generations and continues to be run by family members, and has been continuously expanded and modernized over the past 120 years. |My room was a superior room for a single or a couple with Mountain Views and although small was comfortable and included a small en-suite shower bathroom. The hotel has a small spa area with a jacuzzi and sauna available at no extra charge with pre booking. Two game rooms are available as well as a ski storage room and boot dryers. Half board is well worth taking as the breakfast buffet is extensive and the excellent dinner includes an appetizer (generally a soup or some traditional item) and a single main course (I enjoyed roast lamb, fish, veal escalope) followed by a cheese course, and then a large assortment of desserts. Dinner can be preceded or followed by cocktails etc in the bar room. |Although the hotel is outside of Chamonix the town can be readily accessed by the #1 bus every 30 minutes and it also takes you to the Flagere ski area. Alternatively the train from Chamonix stops at Bosson station providing a useful option for transportation every hour. If you are planning to ski the Valle Blanche you would take the bus in to Chamonix Aiguille du Midi, have a great ski day and then take the train back to Bosson as the Montenvers train station is next to the Chamonix station. |So if you want a quiet location outside of Chamonix center with high quality service and comfort, do give Hotel Aiguille du Midi...

I Stayed at Hotel Aiguille Du midi for one month, which is the longest I’ve ever stayed at a hotel while travelling o/s
This time around I didn’t even get through all of the hikes that I could have!
Every day, it was amazing going out in either direction with several cable cars taking me up to wherever I wanted to go with loads of options of how many hours I’d choose to hike and at a pace that feels right for me. ( The multi pass for the cable cars which included bus train was very good value . It also had extra things Included that you could enjoy😀
It was a great location situated in the middle with cable cars on either side that would take you up to the Alps to do loads of hiking ! It was actually slightly to the middle and a beautiful location which was very nice to have that peacefulness without it being totally secluded and the train was only one minute walk away!(No noises from the train...
