The experience overall was okay .. despite the richness of the menu plus the quality of the food there were some service flaws that made our visit to Initial less enjoyable than it should have been ..

The service in general seemed messy, it looked like there was a lack of communication between the kitchen and the waiters. On the menu the main fish dish was meant to be serviced before the meat, despite waiting 30 minute for our dish the sommelier poured us a glass of red wine which seemed weird to eat with fish. 5 minutes later the waiters arrived with the meat. When told that the fish wasn’t served there wasn’t any apology nor any signs of surprise as it seemed completely normal. 10 minutes later we received our fish with no white wine as it was poured during the 30 Minutes wait. The wine pairings were good ,a nice selection, but the lack of explanation and involvement of the sommelier taking the time to explain why the wines matched the dishes made it appear like a regular every day meal. The only time where an explanation was give was when the orange wine from Alsace was serviced Also, since there was a shortage of orange wine half of the table was served another wine.

Besides these major points some details such as Men were serviced before Women at the beginning of the service.At the end of the service we were told that the extra glasses of wine for tasting were not counted for which appeared very unprofessional.

All in all, It’s not a place not go to or avoid at any cost but the beauty of Michelin Star restaurants lies in details and on that evening they were...

Dinner at Magma was wonderful! My choice was a 7 course tasting menu. I am from the USA and often find the portions at American restaurants to be much too large to consume. However, at Magma each course consisted of a "just right" amount of the most artistcally- and lovingly-curated food that was a banquet for both the eyes and tastebuds (I had no trouble eating everything). I had never before been confronted by such undeniably complex taste and interesting texture of food--but it was fun to try to figure it all out! The staff were pros and both friendly and helpful with everything including wine pairing. It can be intimidating to eat in a fine restaurant when solo, but I received a warm welcome from the chef and staff. I really enjoyed my meal and highly recommend. Many thanks to you...

Un volcan sagement délicieux Nous avons récemment dîné au restaurant Magma, un établissement gastronomique au cadre agréable et contemporain, qui propose un menu surprise en cinq ou sept temps. Nous avions opté pour cette deuxième option, curieux de découvrir toute l’étendue de la créativité du chef.

Les plats étaient très bien exécutés, avec une présentation minimaliste et élégante. Les saveurs étaient justes, raffinées et réconfortantes, mais nous nous attendions à des associations peut-être un peu plus audacieuses, surtout compte tenu du nom « Magma », du concept du menu surprise et du prix… mais peut-être s’agissait-il du menu du moment qui était un peu plus « classique ». Malgré cela, chaque plat était délicieux et parfaitement maîtrisé. Peut-être aurions-nous aimé que les assiettes soient légèrement plus copieuses. Les desserts, bien qu’agréables, nous ont semblé un peu moins à la hauteur du reste du repas ce soir-là.

Un bon point pour les amateurs de vins : il est possible de trouver des bouteilles tout à fait abordables, ce qui permet de compléter agréablement le repas sans exploser le budget. Le service était impeccable, bien que légèrement guindé, ce qui est attendu dans un restaurant gastronomique. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié que le chef vienne échanger avec nous au cours du service, un geste chaleureux qui humanise l’expérience.

Magma reste un très bel établissement où l’on passe une excellente soirée. Si certains commentaires négatifs (ici ou là) auraient pu nous inquiéter, ils nous semblent très exagérés. Certes, nous aurions aimé une expérience un peu plus marquante, avec des goûts qui nous sortiraient davantage de notre zone de confort, mais cela ne diminue en rien la qualité indéniable de cette cuisine. Une adresse idéale pour ceux qui recherchent une cuisine soignée dans un cadre contemporain, avec un service attentif et une carte des vins accessible.
