La Grande Fontaine — Restaurant in Carcassonne

Had a really unpleasant experience here. My partner and I were met with really hostile vibes for some reason. We sat at the table for 20 minutes with no service, which was fine, but then when someone eventually came over, we were told to order quickly because the kitchen was closing, we ordered straight away. As we named things to order, they kept saying 'no' we couldn't have that, also fine and understandable. I get they want to make something easy. We settled on a salad, which came with frites, which we confirmed with the waiter. The salad came out, it was ok and rushed together, but the frites didn't come, and when we asked where they were, they said 'non', despite them saying they came with frites when we ordered. This all would be fine, really, but the entire time these interactions happened, the staff were so rude, dismissive and curt, for no reason? When we asked for the bill, to get out of there, they then took ages to bring it, and kept forgetting. It was a real shame...

Had a lovely lunch here today (28/08/19) with some friends. Lovely and cool sitting under the parasol and natural canopy of the trees. Sat right by the fountain, so great to hear the water. Had the Plat du Jour, which was a Trio of Fish with Mash and Green Beans. Lovely! This came with an entree of Tuna salad and a desert of Chocolate or Citroen Tarte! Really great value at €14! Not the most picturesque venue, but a popular stopping place and watering hole nonetheless. Frequented by locals and tourists during the season, it is a pleasant place to sit and people watch under the plane trees and by the fountain from which it derives its name.
