We stayed there several time and have been able to watch the changes over the years.||Salins les Bains is first of all not a very exciting place in itself but can make a good base in order to go to Arc et Senans and its unique construction, visit Dole or make some real good healthy walks in the surrounding area. It makes also a good stop if you go to Switzerland.||Rooms are fairly big, we are a family of three and we had plenty of space to move around despite the luggage ... room and bathroom are clean, bedding excellent, traffic noise is kept away by efficient double-glazing.||Breakfast buffet is very good, staff very friendly and helpful. I do not know though if they are multi-lingual .... ???||They have in the same building, swimming pool, sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, massage etc for a small fee, the hotel supplies bathrobe, swimming cap.||They used to have an excellent restaurant with fantastic local dishes and good wines, with a very good service; all this has changed, the cook is gone, the place has been entirely redecorated in a modern impersonal way which is not at all suitable for such a place, the food has changed with the departure of the master cook, the service has become unfriendly ... big deception. Alternative the restaurant LE PETIT BLANC which is in the same building but does not belong to the hotel, good regional food, friendly service, plesant surrounding although quite crowded in the evening as it is very popular with the locals.||This hotel is only a 2 stars hotel but is well above some 3 stars...
Read moreWe stayed at the Grand Hotel des Bains for a couple of nights in late July/early August 2014 as part of a cycling tour of the area. The Hotel is centrally located in the historic centre of Salins Des Bains. The receptionist was delightful, and very welcoming: always a good start to a hotel stay. Our room was adequate with a bath, but a little dated and compact. It also faced the road but there was not too much road noise to disturb us. Dressing gowns and swimming hats were provided with the room at no extra charge: a promise of things to come! After settling in, we got changed and made our way down to the salt-water swimming pool with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi included in our stay, and what an experience that was, very welcome after a long day's cycling. We felt like we had been transported back a century to 'take the waters!'||||The main restaurant was not open for dinner during our stay so we dined at the adjacent and excellent casino restaurant but a very pleasant breakfast was served in a quiet ground floor restaurant. We struggled to find a baker open for picnic lunches on a Sunday - maybe this was not Salins les Bains' strength, or perhaps we were looking in the wrong direction! ||||We took the opportunity to visit the Great Saltworks of Salins-les-Bains museum adjacent to the Casino and were pleased we'd done so- it's quite unmissable. Keep your ticket for reduced entry at the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, well...
