A very strange experience. Our needs were simple (or so we thought) a quick beer because we were thirsty then a light meal with a glass of wine. Unfortunately it was not to be as the concept of an aperitif whilst perusing the menu is not recognised here, the answer was NON, the full order had to be placed when they were ready to take it (and "when they were ready" wasn't at all straight away). The beer then took another 20 minutes to arrive and after that it was down to us to decide when the food order should be sent to the kitchen. Of course we should've learnt our lesson by then but other tables were receiving their food quickly and, given that we had only ordered cold starters, we thought 10, 15 minutes tops. Alas our psychic powers failed us, we left it too late and eventually realised that the food was taking so long that we wouldn't have time to eat it before needing to get back to the car or risk a parking fine. It's a pity because, from what we saw going to other tables, the food looked ok and a little bit more customer service by the staff would have likely resulted in a good review not a bad one, but in the end after 1hr15m we had to leave before being served any lunch or wine and, to be honest, the beer wasn't to our...
Read moreYesterday, my husband and I were on a full-day 3 country excursion from BCN and arrived in Ax-en-Thermes at lunchtime. Of the several restaurants offered, we chose La Cave for it's extended menu, indoor and outdoor tables near the roundabout. My husband chose a grilled pork platter with delicious mustard, while I enjoyed a humungous home-made Beef Hamburger & Mountain Tomme platter with full garnishings. Both arrived fast and sizzling as we were among the first to arrive for lunch. The place was full when we left, which is always a good sign. The owners were very welcoming and spoke English too! We recommend this establishment for all the good reasons. The only reason I kept a star was the fact that all the seats were high-stools with no backs and difficult for seniors like us, especially one using a cane after a knee-replacement. I was a bit afraid of falling off my perch as it was just too much of an exercise to keep my balance. Perhaps offer more lower tables with regular chairs for those of us in a fragile state. Still, the place was "sympa" and the food local; the menus promise a "good...
Read moreService is awful but food is even worse.
The lady at the bar (she is the waiter and, as she told me, the manager) doesn’t have to be nice because travel companies bring people here. She is not friendly and not polite. I asked menu for several times, but she was very busy running back and forth. So I took menu myself from the other table. Then I ordered meat with French fries. To say that the food is awful is to say nothing. It is absolutely not possible to chew the meat. It was exactly like chewing gum. And French fries looks the way it was cooked yesterday and today it was fried again: very brown and very oily, it tasted awful. I told this to the waiter and she replied that nobody complained before and the only my problem is that I’m a very negative person. She just told me it the way we are in the line in a shop. She has no idea how to deal with clients. I asked if I can talk to a manger. She told me she is the manager. I paid for everything, she didn’t give me even a discount, but of corse I didn’t eat this chewing-gum-meat. It was a really awful idea to come here. Can’t...
