Le Panier de Crabe — Restaurant in La Rochelle

It is not often that I disagree with Google reviewers, but we were slightly disappointed with our meals. The highlight was undoubtedly the in-house mayonnaise with herbs, the lowlight was the half-crab which was dry and very firm. Not something that I have experienced previously.

The outdoor seating cannot be described as remotely comfortable and I cannot imagine what happens during inclement weather. Fortunately we had a lovely evening but as the sun went behind the buildings, we were please that we had brought sweaters.

It is not a restaurant with the view to the harbour, like all the other here around, but it is a restaurant with a flair and a charm. It feels like sitting in the backyard with friends. The seafood was great, together with the wine. And the waiter was friendly and charming and bring that right feeling of a dinner with friends. We had a fantastic experience at Le Panier du Crabes in La Rochelle! We arrived without a reservation but were lucky to get a table for two by going early — definitely recommend that approach if you haven’t booked ahead. We ordered the seafood platter and it was absolutely delicious. Everything — from the crab, oysters, shrimps, to the snails — was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The quality of the seafood really stood out. The outdoor seating added so much to the experience.
