Saint Saviour Church of La Rochelle — Attraction in La Rochelle

When I visited here I could sense the spirit of the old church comes alive inside. I read up before I visited and best thing I did! From the entrance portal of flamboyant gothic (for architectural style buffs) of Corinthian style, to the interior. The three naves with its salient transept with stunning choir and high altar. There are some notable chapels here especially the Chapel of the Virgin to the right of the transept is worth pausing for. I could write an essay on this stunning church but you have to explore it to experience it's historical significance and its understated beauty. Venant d'être magnifiquement rénovée, l'église Saint Sauveur,un des édifices emblématiques du patrimoine religieux de La Rochelle,mérite la visite de celui-ci. Elle fut construite au 12ème siècle par les moines de l'île d'Aix.En 1419,elle fut ravagée par un incendie,puis reconstruite.En 1568, l'église Saint Sauveur fut à nouveau détruite par les protestants rochelais.Une troisième église Saint Sauveur fut achevée en 1669.Le portail est le seul vestige de l'incendie qui dévasta l'église en 1705.L'église actuelle,la quatrième église Saint Sauveur,date de 1718. En pleno centro histórico de La Rochelle, se encuentra esta iglesia que originalmente fue una de estilo románico del siglo XII, luego otra de estilo gótico, la cual sufrió a causa de un incendio y finalmente la actual, que data del siglo XVIII. Algo que atrae antes de entrar, son los restos de la iglesia gótica. Al interior llama la atención las réplicas de embarcaciones colgadas lateralmente y de una gran belleza.
