Rather, mediocre place with food delivery instead of food service.
Menus: presented in a plastic stand, gives impression of the canteen rather than restaurant.
Food: delicious terrine of poultry liver and delicious pumpkin soup. Unfortunately, delicious ends here. Pork was bland, and the pickled cabbage overpowered the rest. Chorizo was hard to inldentify in the potatoes under the pulled pork. Risotto was more like a soup, too runny, rice not cooked well, and flavours were laking any excitement. Beef tartar was plentiful buy the flavours were again missing and as French fries goes, those were roasted potatoes not fries.
The biggest disappointment was desserts. Lemon tart (deconstructed) was merely a very acid paâte patissere , made with way too much starch, resembling a glue texture. Chocolate moelleux was overpowered with salt, and it was unpleasant to eat. Chestnut ice cream was delicious, but composition was very basic. Chantilly, as it appeared, was squirted from the can, and it didn't taste good.
Service was also on disappointment. No ice bucket was delivered for our drinks, and the buissnes of them making you keeping a cutlery after a starter is a really cheap move (we get it if that is in café, bit not in the restaurant). Overall, the place atmosphere was lovely, but the place needs to...
Read moreOn the top of the hill of la Croix rouge, this red-painted female-led restaurant warmly welcomes the Lyon visitors. The art here is not only on the walls, but also in the plates, which highlight the chef's creativity. A modern French cuisine interprets traditional recipes blinking at world-class ingredients. The overall quality is good, although slightly disomogeneous: the starters have been a bit disappointing, since great ideas have been wasted into dispropotionate combination of flavours (too much - delicious - curry cream and not enough melon; also a pinch of salty - maybe crusty ham - would have improved the result). On the other side, the main courses (rabbit and beef in this case), have been excellent: perfect cooking skills and smart processings (e.g. the honey fennel). The desserts sided great creations (the apricots one) with other less happy solutions (raspberry and yogurt glass). The service has been very cheerful, sometimes too much, ending up in some brink and inaccurate situations. We did not find any problem to get a place for a Saturday lunch, but in other cases reservation would be useful. The quality/price ratio is a...
Read moreWhat an amazing meal! We stayed nearby when visiting from New York, and this may have been our favorite meal of our whole trip. The service was stellar from start to finish thanks to Alexandre, with creative and inventive dishes showcasing local ingredients. They change the menu quite often, but you can't go wrong. The wine list was also excellent and very affordable.
We wouldn't change a single thing about our experience - overall an incredible and creative meal for a very affordable price in a beautiful restaurant, with attentive and friendly service. What more can...
