HOPSTORE — Restaurant in Lyon

Full disclosue- I'm an Oregon beer snob. It must be our local hops that make the difference. I've had the beers in Scotland, England, France and Italy. The rumors are true- beers from the American NW are noticably superb. I know there's no accounting for taste, but european beers just don't do it for me. We walked by this cozy bar on our way up the hill in Lyon. It's a wonderful little building with a well-designed stone-and-brick interior with great ambience, and a great outdoor seating area. Traffic right there is minimal so it's the near-perfect place to stop and refresh. The staff was very good. I was surprised to see such an extensive tap list in France....very comparable to one of Portland's better pubs. There were 2 IPAs on tap. We had a pint of the Brewdog. Hopstore is one of the better beer forward bars in Lyon. Newer and even more taps, it seems to be incredibly popular and full almost every night. Happy hour starts is 17h-20h and is 5 euros a pint for all their offerings. Afterwards the regular price for pints is 6,50, so still not a bad deal. The burgers and fries are good and copious at around 13 euros for the cheapest options. They offer a vegetarian burger, but cannot be made vegan sadly. Didn't eat there but visited for a drink on three consecutive evenings. Simply brilliant ! The staff were great , the music was great , the atmosphere was buzzing and the choice of beers superb. The majority of customers seemed to be of the student age groups , which kept it lively , but even us ( young ) 70 year olds found it the perfect place to end the night - all being it past midnight.
