Our first visit to a bouchon after arriving to Lyon. We chose this place based on many reviews & the food. The food was indeed amazing. We shared 3 different appetizers, followed by a main course, then cheese, & lastly, dessert. We loved every bite of the food. It was truly filling as everyone said. But the service left a bit to be desired. Don't get me wrong, both servers were incredible & did what they can under extreme busy & stressful circumstances. The female server was very good at explaining each course to us. Unfortunately, she completely forgot to ask us about the wine. I don't know if she thought we had refused, it was entirely possible she had asked, but due to the noise level, more on that later, we gave her the impression we didn't want it. But we had to wait for her to come back & asked her for wine recommendations. We don't believe she asked. & she did not ask us if we wanted seconds. Other than that, she was great under the situation. As for the noise level, I would rate it as high. The entire restaurant is already on the small side. Tables were placed so close to each other, they might as well be communal style. We can hear conversations on both sides of us. We even chatted briefly with a couple sitting next to us. But because the place doesn't use carpeting, the noise bounced everywhere. So we found it hard even talking to the couple. My wife & I had to raise our voices to be heard sitting across from each other. So if you are looking for a quiet spot to have a conversation, this is probably not it for you. But if you just want to have casual talks, focusing on the food, or maybe you like to compete in a shouting match with other customers, this may be...
Read moreFinally! We were ready to give up on eating in Bouchon because the last 2 we had was not to our liking and we tried this restaurant. YES!
The place was packed but we still had spaces in between to have some delineation and privacy. That I appreciated.
Like any Bouchon, you are served with appetizers they prepare for the day, you order a main, you have cheese for the day, then you choose a dessert.
For appetizers, we had lentils, beetroots with mackerel, pork cheeks with salad. They were all good! For mains: we ordered the hanger steak with shallot sauce and mashed potatoes - all very good. Steak cooked right, sauce was flavorful and mashed potatoes creamy just the way I like it. We also ordered the Grilled Andouillette- a pork sausage with mustard sauce and mashed potatoes. It was also very good. We were served a glass of creamy cauliflower ( a surprisingly good refreshing palate cleanser). Then came the cheese - both good and ending with chocolate fondant and Praline. We ordered red wine which went well with all the dishes!
The place was packed but the 2 servers were patient when explaining the menu and describing each dish when they serve it on your table. They were attentive and knew when you were ready for the next dish.
Compliments to the Chef and Servers! A must try Bouchon...
Read moreAmong the many bouchons in Lyon, we initially picked this one based on the reviews. It was a good choice and glad we booked in advance.
With the set menu, you get a few appetizers for sharing, one main course to select from a list of 7-8, cheese and dessert. The classic Lyonise appetizers were consistently good and we cleaned the plates in no time.
We ordered both the Quenelle de rouget maison and Saucisson pistache as our mains. The red mullet dumpling rice was hearty and the pistachio sausage with mash potatoes was comparatively lighter yet refreshing. We were happy with both of our mains.
While we thought desserts are next... we realize that there are cheese plates coming. Although our stomach is full, we could not resist both cheeses as they are excellent. The homemade desserts are okay and you can choose from the dessert list.
The servers are friendly and helpful. They may take some time to warm up. Towards the end of the evening, they are more chatty. The atmosphere of the restaurant is causal and cozy. Definitely recommend this place for those who want to experience a...
