We were very disappointed in the poor service and the lack of attention we received from our waiter. We were stuck in a side room and the waiter basically seemed to have forgotten about us. After waiting quite a while to get menus and then waiting another long time, the waiter finally took our order. He presented the roasted suckling pig which I had ordered. But never really saw him again until he presented our bill. We noticed the chef came and spoke with many of the other diners but he never came into our dining room. We were the only guests seated in that side room. If you don’t have two hours for dinner, this is not a restaurant for you. In fact, I would not recommend this restaurant at all. Way over rated. And not inexpensive. The roast pork was quite salty as was the trout. Hiwever, I must say the chartreuse dessert was wonderful and...

Le Vivarais is in the heart of the peninsula (Presqu'île) area, in the center of Lyon, France.

I visited this restaurant for a family dinner, and it was very enjoyable.

The food was fresh, very nicely presented and it was tasty.

The menu is very traditional , very Lyonnais in style, with food and recipes that are local to this area. No nouvelle Cuisine here, but good value for the money, which I appreciate.

The service was timely and attentive as well.

At the end of our lunch, we got a quick visit from the chef, who wore the prestigious "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" distinction on his collar. While that last check did not change much, I suppose that if anything was not up to standard, it was obvious that the chef wanted to know first hand....

Traditional and elegant cuisine of Lyon. You can tell our waiter was part of the essence of this restaurant, he explained everything with such passion and inspiration :) We took the dinner menu at 39€ (starter, main, dessert). For the starter we took the soup, it was very good, creamy and I love the truffle in it, the soup was missing salt but otherwise, delicious. For main dish I got the meat (beef cheek), it was soft and tender - the sauce was sooo good. The veggies around were a bit uncooked for us. Overall a nice experience, located in downtown lyon - if you come by car you can park at Parking Gailleton. If you come by Metro take the pink line to Ampere Victor Hugo.

We had a lovely dinner with a charming, French-style atmosphere. The Lyonnaise salad was nice. I had fish dumplings with mushrooms and risotto—beautifully presented, though I expected a stronger fish flavor and texture. My sister had the duck, which was perfectly cooked and tender, with a visually stunning plate, though the garnish could have been more generous. For dessert, we shared the chestnut soufflé (served cold, as noted), but I was hoping for more chestnut flavor and less ice cream. The chef visited tables at the end of the night, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was a delightful experience with wonderful flavors. Thank you!

After some serious research I settled on Le Vivarais as my best bet for an authentic Lyonnaise bouchon. A few blocks off the tourist track, Le Vivarais was less than half full for a Friday lunch. I already had my sights set on the Bresse Chicken Terrine and trout. Both were wonderful. While I was debating whether to finish with the cheese or the sweet I saw a praline tart heading to another table. With a little espresso it was the perfect finale. Chef Williams Jacquier came out to chat with his guests and receive some well earned praise.
