Absolutely amazing! Best meal we had in Lyon - or in France in fact (and we went to Michelin starred places as well as a bunch of the unmissable ones in Lyon). Seriously, the food was insanely good. From the salade lyonnaise to the BEST quenelle I’ve ever tasted, and sublime dessert. My husband had also told them that it was our 10 year wedding anniversary and they even gave us a surprise pre-dessert with a candle on it to let us both blow it out. The staff were excellent too. The waiter was very comfortable talking to my husband in English and was a sheer delight all around. Similarly it was fascinating watching the chef work. Also he is super gifted, and clearly loves his job. I was treated to a show of happy whistling over the pans, dancing and singing whilst working, and trust me: you can taste this happiness and love in his food! It’s incredible. When the chef saw I was curious about how he was creating that magic in the kitchen, he chuckled, and as soon as there was some respite in service he came to chat to us. Both chef and waiter were genuinely really lovely people, full of laughs, yet seasoned professionalism. I highly recommend it. Oh and note that there’s a difference: there’s Restaurant Thomas and Bouchon Thomas. They are opposite each other and run by the same owners. In fact, my husband had booked the Restaurant Thomas (our mistake) but when we arrived and realised that, and told them that we wanted the traditional dishes from Lyon served in the Bouchon, they gave us the choice to stay in the higher-end restaurant but ordering from the Bouchon menu, or to find us a table in the Bouchon. We went to the Bouchon and they also relayed the message about our anniversary. Best meal I’ve had in France in a long while (and I’m a French foodie who comes back to France a couple of times a year). This is the kind of place and people that make me proud of my...

Our lunch at Bouchon Thomas was the culinary highlight of our recent trip to France - a meal which I know we'll remember for a very long time.

First, the food: absolutely spectacular. The oeufs en meurette we all had as entrees were the best we ate during our time in Lyon. We ordered three very different dishes as mains (steak, fish, and offal / andouillette), and all of them were excellent. And the pain perdu I had to finish was one of the best desserts of my life.

Second, the ambience: the setting is cosy and intimate, with only a limited number of seats and good visibility into their small kitchen.

And third, the service: warm, authentic, and attentive. Seeing that we had two children with us, the waiter proactively offered to bring them food from next door if the bouchon menu didn't suit their taste (which it did). We ordered two different glasses of wine, and he brought out both bottles to let us taste them before finalizing our order. Our children ordered a steak to share, which the kitchen split into two portions in the kitchen without us asking. And the waiter overheard our youngest daughter say that she really likes whipped cream, so he brought out a mini-dessert of chocolate and whipped cream just for her.

This was one of three different bouchons we tried in Lyon, and Bouchon Thomas stood head and shoulders above not only the other two, but all of the other restaurants at which we ate. We even tried to make another booking during our trip, but sadly they aren't open during the weekends.

Do not miss this place during your...

I recently had the pleasure of trying the food at Bouchon Thomas, and I must say it was absolutely fantastic! From the moment I walked in, the inviting ambiance and friendly staff made me feel right at home. The menu offered a wide variety of dishes to choose from, each one more tantalizing than the last.

The quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite. The flavors were perfectly balanced and showcased the skill and creativity of the chefs. Whether it was a mouthwatering appetizer, a flavorful main course, or a decadent dessert, each dish was a true delight for the taste buds.

The presentation of the food was also impeccable. Each plate was a work of art, beautifully arranged with attention to detail. It was clear that the chefs took great pride in their craft, and it added to the overall dining experience.

Furthermore, the service was top-notch. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the food they were serving. They were more than happy to provide recommendations and answer any questions, ensuring that every guest had a memorable dining experience.

Overall, I highly recommend Bouchon thomas to anyone seeking an exceptional culinary experience. The combination of delicious food, impeccable presentation, and outstanding service make it a standout dining destination. Whether you're looking for a special occasion spot or simply want to treat yourself to a remarkable meal, this restaurant is the...

Well this place was and is such a gem of a bouchon! I was very fortunate to get a last minute table for opening dinner time -which was complet- thanks to the welcoming nature of Maxime! My seat faced the open kitchen which was a wonderful experience to see the chefs bustling away preparing every order - the bouchon filled up with the heat and smells of cooking right there. The 3 course menu is the best way to try the best the Lyonnaise dishes on offer. First the salad lyonnaise was dressed with the most beautiful oozing egg and dangerously delicious bacon pieces - the croutons too were so crisp they could have been mistaken for crackling! For mains, the quennelle here is something else, so light, so fluffy - and the sauce... a deep seafood flavour worth soaking up every drop! And for dessert, the pain perdu was a wonderful caramelised bread pudding - warm, fuffy, crisp in parts, and balanced with the scoop of cool ice cream and pan fried banana. All in all, a wonderful bouchon worth booking ahead to get a spot! Such a treat, such a joy. Whole heartedly recommend!
