Jeff de Bruges — Restaurant in Marseille

Having purchased chocolates here six months prior, I was eager to return to Jeff de Bruges to confirm my initial impression: these are outstanding chocolates worth the price that premium chocolates like this demand. Read on for details.

The small storefront on this congested street in the Mazarque section of Marseille is distinguished by the Jeff de Bruges canopy. The chocolates are on full display behind glass with descriptions in French with dark chocolates separated from the rest. The French speaking person behind the counter was patient with my efforts to ask questions and order in French but did call out the English-speaking manager (who thought my French to be better than her English.)

After filling my small box with dark chocolates, the two women offered me samples of chocolates that I had deliberately skipped over, specifically some dark chocolate items with fruit embellishments. The pear-flavored dark chocolate was a bit of a revelation.

Overall, the chocolates are intense, smooth and creamy with a perfect blend of cacao bitterness offset by just enough sweetness. Compared to better known high-end chocolate shops, e.g. Maison du Chocolat, I find Jeff de Bruges to offer a superior product at fair price. On my next visit to Marseille, I'll be back here, both for the chocolates and to practice my French with the two women...

L'une de ces nombreuses enseignes franchisées qui fleurissent un peu partout, au prix d'une certaine uniformité mais qui est aussi la garantie de la qualité des produits. La différence : le personnel et l'accueil. Ici c'est un couple compétent dont les doigts précis savent se diriger vers les fines douceurs qui réjouiront les palais ; avant d'emplir de sérieux ballotins... La meilleure boutique de Jeff de Bruges de Marseille, selon moi, la gérante de cette enseigne franchisée est d'une gentillesse et patience merveilleuse. L'accueil est des plus chaleureux et bienveillant, le choix de ces chocolats si goûteux est capable de ravir n'importe quel palais ou demande spécifique. J'ai adoré discuter avec la gérante me faisant passer un agréable moment dans la journée, et je compte bien y retourner...
