La Bonne Mère — Restaurant in Marseille

For a very well reviewed pizzeria, the customer service is simply awful. We called them during the day to reserve a table but they were fully booked so we decided to go and order take away. Went there and found out they do not accept cash (cheapest pizza €14!) fine yet somewhat incredible in this day and age. You would think we could just order the pizza, go and get the cash from a nearby atm and then pick the pizzas up - like any other pizzeria... However, we were told that they were very busy and we could only order the pizzas after 45 minutes - the place was far from packed and noone waiting for a takeaway. If you can’t manage to book a table, don’t waste your time for a takeaway. Being Italian I found the whole situation embarrassing for them.

Arrivati scopriamo che non accettano la carta (nonostante la pizza meno costosa sia di €14!). Pensiamo dunque di ordinare e nel frattempo andare a ritirare in un bancomat vicino ma no: la cameriera ci dice che sono pieni, di andare a ritirare e tornare in 45 minuti per ordinare. I asked the waiter to bring me a glass of wine and their best pizza. He recommended their namesake "La Bonne Mere". I was sincerely tried to figure out what the best thing about it was, or at least the good. I had just enough of one slice. To me, it was just a "flattened bread" smeared with tomato sauce and flavored with some cheese. It was radically tasteless and senseless.

This kind of cooking belongs in the garbage bin. Those who invented it, prepared it, called it "the best", served it, and allowed themselves to charge for it (I mean the entire restaurant team) would be better off finding themselves on the unemployment exchange.

After only a few minutes of having my order brought to me, I got up, paid and left. Remarkably, no one even asked me what was wrong. We heard that this place had a good reputation. Recommended by a friend. I found the contrary. Sad Sad Sad. Staff really cold and not welcoming at all. Completely the contrary of Napolitan style. Pizza under the standards with not a good quality products, see sauce tomate Cirio and beretta Ham, products that you can find in Italian METRO cash and carry. 15 to 18 euro for a pizza . Way to much for the products that you are eating. 5 euro for a birra peroni or moretti a robbery. We ask for wine list, they didn't have one as the Website said. Only one choice lambrusco instead 4/5 We had our pizza, we paid and to be honest was really frustrated to heard the waiters chatting to each other said that we didn't left any tips 😅. After that service ??? 👎🏼 Cash only they said straight away when we booked the table by the phone, already sais a lot of things.😅😅😅 Never will come back to this place. You can find better pizzas in Marseille.
