Le Bousti — Restaurant in Marseille

Passed by during an early afternoon walk and had a good feeling, so went in for lunch. I'm very glad I did. Le Bousti opened in early December and specializes in Provençal dishes and wines. When I was there, chef-owner Jean-Charles was the only one on staff, cooking, taking orders, cleaning tables, making coffee, etc. You almost never see that nowadays.

I ordered the formule, which consisted of an elegantly simple and delicious fusilli with salmon, parmesan, and a hint of lemon, a drink (I decided on a glass of excellent Provençal white wine), and a flawless creme brulee for dessert. I had a noisette with my dessert, and when that was done Jean-Charles brought me a bottle of his family's secret-recipe liqueur and just left it on my table, as if to say: "Drink as much as you want." It too was fantastic.

I've been in Marseille for the past month, and this was without doubt my most enjoyable dining experience, so much so that I may still try to have dinner there before I leave next week. Amazing dinner experience with friendly service! I’d recommend the gyozas, planche moitié moitié (charcuterie and cheese plate), the tataki de boeuf (beef), aioli gravlax (salmon) and my friends absolutely loved the nachos de panisse and the caviar sauce that came with it. The staff was very friendly and the wine was good, but the food was very disappointing. The charcuterie/cheese board was extremely small for the price, the cheeses all tasted the same and it lacked extras like nuts, jam, honey.
