I am so sorry that I only discovered this place on my last night in Marseille. If I had found it sooner I would’ve eaten here many times during my trip. The food was so good! I wanted to try everything on the menu. I had the medium chicken yassa dish. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, the plantain, rice, sweet potatoes and fried onions - everything complimented eachother. Even the Bissau, hibiscus drink went down well. Very tasty. To top it off, the staff were super sweet. Very nice guys. One of them spoke English, so we had a bit of a chat. They were all so welcoming. I felt happy to support especially with it being a black owned business. I wlll recommend Yokae to anyone I know who is visiting Marseille. I wish the guys well!

Had the Congo bowl, it was delicious and felt healthy - you can add a dessert and drink for only €3.90. The big Congo bowl was so much food I couldn’t finish, to have this plus dessert and a drink was only €17.90 - which seems like a steal for such high quality. Some of the drinks are cool and imported. The decor is simple but clean and there’s some good hip hop, grime and French rap playing. The staff were really friendly - has to be one of the best value for money experiences in Marseille and would definitely go back!

Cela faisait longtemps que je voulais aller dans ce restaurant. Je suis contente d’avoir eu l’occasion de tester. Le plat dans l’ensemble était très bon mais épicé, ce qui n’est pas notifié sur les bornes de commande lors du choix du plat. Le Bissap est en supplément à plus de 4€ ce qui n’est pas donné.. Concernant les lieux, je m’attendais à un endroit un peu plus décoré où nous serions plongé dans l’univers africain, ce ne fut pas le cas du tout. Pour débarrasser nous ne savions pas clairement si nous devions le faire nous même ou non, il y a peu d’indications donc déçue de ce côté-ci. Je pense revenir pour bien manger mais niveau ambiance nous aurions souhaité de la musique en lien avec la cuisine et l’univers et ce ne fut pas le cas non plus… je trouve que ce restaurant a perdu des points bêtement.

Incredible food, and incredibly friendly people. We were looking for easy takeout on our last night in Marseille and were excited to try Yokae, but didn't expect to have our best meal of the entire trip!

The Poulet Mayo and the Mikates were great, but the Kongo Bowl was the definite highlight. Everyone working was friendly and helpful, and we'll definitely be back next time we're in Marseille. I really can't recommend it...
