Café Social — Restaurant in Montpellier

I heard good stuff about the Restaurant. The last time I was here, I was a bit late and could not enjoy there food, but still I was very welcome and had a good time. For that they should get 5 stars.

Unfortunately not today, shortly after they opened, I asked if I can get some food and something to drink. I did not booked in advanced though, as I just cycled here. The staff showed me the menu but told me that it was not possible, as all the places were fully booked. At the time there were not many people there.

That said the lady seemed to have a hard day, who knows. Maybe it was the language barrier. Such a pity, that they could not make place for one person at least for a drink and they made this clear in a bit of an assertive way. And that is the reason for the low rating this time, sorry. So, it seems you need to book in advanced as the restaurant...

C'est la 2ème (et dernière fois) que je déjeune dans ce resto. La 1ère fois était il y a 4 ans, j'avais tellement apprécié (l'accueil, l'ambiance familiale, la qualité des plats), que j'avais promis à mes enfants de les y emmener... Quelle déception ce midi! Arrivée 13h05, accueil correct jusqu'à ce qu'on nous apporte l'ardoise et nous dise qu'il va falloir faire vite pour la commande parce que la cuisine va fermer... L'heure indiquée sur Google est 12h-14h/18h-00h... On prend donc des tapas, dont des pan con tomatas y serrano, les pires que j'ai jamais mangé, de la tomate insipide écrasée sur du pain même pas aillé, un jambon cru digne d'un sous-vide vendu supermarché avec du poivre moulu pour apporter un semblant de saveur au tout. 2 croquettas qui se battaient dans l'assiette et des beignets de cougettes plutôt corrects servis avec une sauce à rouleau de printemps toute prête... Le pire fut quand, au moment où je prends une bouchée de ma croqettas, vers 13h20, la serveuse vient avec l'ardoise nous demander si l'on souhaitait des desserts. Nous venions de commencer à manger... Je lui ai répondu qu'elle avait l'air pressée, que nous n'allions pas la déranger davantage avec des desserts. Elle m'a répondu:ah mais c'est pour la cuisine, moi personnellement si vous vous voulez prendre des glaces ça m'est égal. Bref, on a terminé rapidement nos 3 tapas et 13h40 nous avons libéré la serveuse et les cuistos. A jamais! Strange that almost all the one star reviews of this place are from people who have posted less than 6 reviews…..We walked in (no reservation) to this off the beaten track, slightly bohemian, informal and had a great lunch on a table outside eating a delicious Tian de Legumes, a tasty Cabillaud (fish) au gratin with salad and chips, Burrata, and Tomato Salad, all served with a smile. €69 for 3 including drinks.
