Chez Hubert — Restaurant in Nîmes

Went back in June 2025 with family members visiting from abroad - what a disappointment! Two of us ordered the day's menu which came with "Hampe de Boeuf" & dessert. One of us had the squid & another had a fish plus a plate of escargots as starter. The escargot was great but to our dismay, that was just about it. We were the first two tables to arrive & our mains came about an hour later due to an error & complications with our orders. Nobody came to inform us about it until we had enough of watching plates passing by us & people who walked in very much later finishing their plates before we even had ours! The beef was utterly inedible & the fish was so dry!!! Only the squid was acceptable. The menu dessert was a soft cake with some stewed fruits but the whole thing tasted mainly sugar 😣 Hardly finish, we left the place & went somewhere else for a coffee. Came here for late lunch before going into the amphitheater. We wanted something familiar and refreshing so we ordered the cheeseburger and a caesar salad.

The burger was good and the generous portion of fries were tasty, although the buns were slightly larger than other ingredients so you have this edge with nothing but bread all around the burger (not a big deal).

The caesar salad really hit the spot because it's difficult to get your portions of fresh green leafy veggies from typical french food and this big bowl of greens was a nice change of pace. The additional ingredients also made it a hybrid of caesar/cobb/garden salad which was interesting.

btw sit outside if you can because we wanted to sit inside at first but saw the big mosquitos awaiting us and noped right out.

After our visit to les arènes we were ready for a nice lunch. CH happened to be right at the entrance of the arènes. I looked up their reviews and they seemed to be decent. We put our names down and we were seated a few minutes later outside on the patio. We ordered:

Menu enfant: kids enjoyed their steak haché, frites and ice cream.

La planche de charcuterie: 4/5 wow this is huge! Good thing we were a big party. We were able to finish 80% of this.

Burrata et tomate: 5/5 delicious salad!

Tartare de boeuf: 3/5 hubby said this was just ok.

Our group order the other entrees (see my photos) and said they were good.
