We were looking for somewhere to eat in Sommières and googled a few different places. We went into the town early and booked a table here. We were not at all disappointed.
It bears saying my French is pretty bad. But the chef was very patient. He kindly talked us through the bits of the menu we did not understand and was very accommodating of our poor language skills.
My wife and I ordered off the set menu (3 courses for 32€, which was very reasonable for the quality of food) while my children ordered off the slightly more limited children's menu, but again the food quality was excellent.
My daughter ordered a steak hache which came with potatoes and veg. She was given a good size portion and it was, by any measure, a decent children's meal. My son ordered the fish and was presented with a full fillet of sea bream along with the array of vegetables and potatoes that came with the other meal. It was, without doubt, the best looking children's meal I have ever seen. My son insisted it was the best he had eaten too!
My wife and I ordered different starters. I had the aubergine in a vinegar sauce while she had the goat's cheese salad. Both were very nice and enjoyable. For main, we both had the beef and challots which was absolutely delicious.
For desert, my children were given choice of brownie or ice cream. My son chose brownie and again said it was one of the best he ever had. It was drizzled with a lovely caramel sauce. My daughter asked for caramel ice cream. On hearing this, the chef asked if he could make her a special desert just for her. He came back with a brownie, cream and caramel ice cream desert covered with sugared peanuts. She was absolutely delighted and the service towards our children was fantastic. The chef was truly excellent.
My wife and I ordered the thé gourmand and café gourmand respectively. There were 5 mini-deserts including crème brulée and brownie. My favourite was the small lemon merangue pudding, which was exceptional.
All in, I cannot recommend the place highly enough. If you are in Sommières, go here! The food was very good indeed, only outdone by the service of the chef himself which was...
Read moreThis is a superb restaurant that is tucked along the river. The menu is fresh and simple with elegant choices that offer a range of choices. The fish was beautifully prepared and the meat is equally well thought out with a nice range of flavor that is sure to please most palettes. When it comes to dessert you will be very happy, I choose an eclair which was possibly the best I have ever had and I don't like eclairs generally. Price wise €32 for a complete menu is extremely reasonable for the quality and skill that is used for the meal. I believe reservations are helpful if you would like to have a river view....
