SAIN — Restaurant in Nantes

We loved this restaurant. The service was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Although the restaurant was busy we never felt forgotten or ignored. The wines are mostly organic or 'natural' and from the area (as are the beers), so we did not know what to choose, but the waiter took plenty of time to find out what other (types of) wines we liked and, having checked what we were going to eat, reccomended an excellent wine which we thoroughly enjoyed (and which he allowed us to try without obligation). There is a wide choice of wines by the glass if you don't want a bottle. The food was absolutely excellent - every course was delicious (we had fish and vegetable choices), and the flavours were interesting without being 'challenging'. The atmosphere was great, lively with chatter from other tables but not so loud we had to shout across the table. Without wine, the cost was 44 Euros per head for three courses, tea and coffee (plus amuse bouche) and we felt this was excellent value for money given the quality of the food and the overall experience. 1+1=683 here. The work performed on these ingredients is alchemy. Wonderful use of texture and flavour make the people in this kitchen so spookily fabulous, kids should wear costumes of them for trick or treat. I dont know what will be on the menu when you come. I wouldn't bother reading it. If there's two of you, order one of each item and flip those plates around, but be sure to leave half for your partner...though you won't want to. A very pleasant experience, food- and personel-wise. We stayed for one night in nearby hotel and looked for a place to have a quick bite since we arrived late to Nantes and were very tired.
