I stayed at the Ibis Styles Nantes Center Gare on a solo trip to explore Nantes. Last year, I stayed in an Ibis Styles in Edinburgh, which was pretty good, so I thought it would be a risk worth taking to try another property under the brand.||My experience couldn't have been more different. I did choose a "family" type room, which meant that the square footage was larger, but I don't think a family could have fit in the room. There was one large queen bed and a sofa that I think may have been the another bed. It was about as large as a standard Hilton or Hyatt room. ||The decor was spartan, but utilitarian. I liked the desk that was modular and you could swing the return in different directions to accommodate what you were doing. It's not in the best part of town, but it's a stone's throw from the central train station so if you're not familiar with Nantes and you're coming via the train, it's super easy to find.||The check in was efficient enough and the staff were moderately friendly. The breakfast, which was more continental than a full hot breakfast (they served a wonderful full, hot breakfast at the Ibis Styles in Edinburgh) was attended to by some really nice staff.||My stay would have been fine had it not been for two signficiant drawbacks. One, there is construction that is going on right next door and they start at 8:00 a.m. The staff put me on the first floor so I couldn't open the window coverings at all or the construction crew would be able to see me and my room. Two, it was quite warm in England and France and the air conditioning was nowhere strong enough to cool down my room to a suitable temperature. I could barely sleep at night because the room was so warm. ||So, in spite of the easy location and pretty friendly staff, I think I'll take a pass for the Ibis Styles the next time...

Read moreAccor has two Ibis hotels by the train station in Nantes with nearly identical names. I didn’t know this until I showed up at the one I thought I had booked. I wanted to come back to the Styles one I stayed at and enjoyed last month, but accidentally booked a room in another Ibis Centre Gare hotel. These two Accor hotels don’t cooperate (!) and refused to transfer my booking to the one where I had arrived around 23h alone by taxi from the airport, with two suitcases, after a long trip from London via Amsterdam since this morning. I had to take another taxi (16 Euro) to the other Ibis Centre Gare (Sud) hotel, which is of poor quality. It’s been a hot day and the A/C was not working in my room so they gave me another room where the A/C is barely working. No fridge here, unlike in the Styles one, and my food for a train trip tomorrow will spoil. The bathroom stinks of urine. Your receptionist told me people confuse the two hotels daily. I feel a bit tricked. Not a nice visit for me in Nantes this time. I may not use any Ibis hotels again. However, the receptionists at the hotel where I stayed erroneously were very service minded and apologized for the inconveniences. I got breakfast on the house and it was excellent, with scrambled eggs and all. The receptionist said they’d alert management about the name confusion and my suggestion to change the name to make it clear that there are two Ibis hotels, on each side of the Nantes...
