What a great evening and a great alternative to dining in Monaco. Cheaper, better and less prententious. We had cocktails in the city first (Le Limun cocktail bar at the Hermitage Hotel) and then got the train from the Central station out to Cap d’Ail. The restaurant is very close to the station, the train time is only five minutes, make sure you get off and don’t overshoot like we did!
Walking from the station to the restaurant is easy when you know the way – make sure you are on the northern platform (the one for trains back to Monaco), walk 5 metres into the car park then 20 metres left, then look for the stairway down some steps and through a tunnel underneath the train track. This is not the tunnel that connects the two platforms, it is a separate tunnel a few metres further away from Monaco. At the end of the tunnel steps turn left and you’ll see the restaurant on the cliff edge 20 metres away.
The restaurant is all outdoors, but cozy under a canopy and operates all year because they keep people warm with heaters and blankets when it is cool. (I think they will be closed for some repairs for 2 months late 2025).
You can hear the sea and see the lights across the bay. The speciality is fish and the food was great. There was also a gentleman singing opera arias, very professional and friendly, low-key and relaxed. The staff were great, the food and drink were super. We had a really good evening and then got the train back to Monaco.
Highly recommended – we had a...
Read moreBreath taking views, you go here for the VIEWS...and when it's accompanied by awesome food, that's a recipie for an ever lasting memory. The restaurant is under new ownership and I could see that they are making changes to the place from the last time I was here. In a typical French style the owner is on hand and is always around checking if all is going well.
This is a place to come watch the sunset, fantastic cocktails, a jump in the sea, instagramable photos, high life living + good food. One thing that lets it down a bit is that the staff is primarily French speaking so, for non French speakers, you will have to put an extra effort if want something a bit different from the menu.
This place does get busy so must do your reservation in advance. Getting here on public transport (train) is the best way as it is right outside the station. You cannot miss it. As soon as you come here you will enter a different world.
If you are in South of France visiting, staying, passing through and if you can afford it, then don't give this place a miss. I promise, it's a...
Read morePlease take your money elsewhere, as a hospitality professional I am flabbergasted as to how this restaurant got any good reviews.
Do not be fooled by the great view of this restaurant, it’s a scam. In my five years going on vacation in the French Riviera, I have not had food this bad. The prices are extortionate for the quality the place offers. The plates were covered in cooking oil stains, the cushions dirty, the cutlery and the glasses were all mismatched. The food was bland and tasteless and the fried seafood I ordered tasted of cheap cooking oil. I believe even if I was cooking sea bass for the first time, I could not manage to make it as flavorless as they served it. They also forgot to bring us one of the side dishes we ordered, which considering all else, was the smaller issue.
To top it all off, once our waiter inquired if we liked the food and we said we did not, we were approached by the owner. Rather than apologizing for the food or trying to make amends of some sort, he got quite aggressive and...
