We visited this restaurant four times during our stay in Nice this week. I was going to give LaPlanxa a five star rating before today’s visit, but today’s visit spoiled the entire experience of eating at LaPlanxa and the ending of our last day in Nice. Just a brief summary before some details: the combination of food quantity, quality, and price is good, but their service is inconsistent. All four times we visited the restaurant during afternoon hours, and it was half-full at most. We were greeted and allowed to choose a table, but not this time. Today, we were just asked ‘for two?’ and the server rushed to somewhere. We sat at the closest table and waited for her to come back. She came in about 5 minutes and said that it was not a table she wanted to get us seated. We moved to the table of her choice and waited for about ten minutes for her to bring a menu. We asked for a drink, and it was another ten minutes of wait in a half-full seating area. It was not just us: everyone around us waited a fairly long time for their starting drink. Overall, her service was unfriendly, and we felt unwelcome at the restaurant. Now, about the food. I suggest you ask for the salt and pepper shakers because some of the food might be underseasoned. The shakers, by the way, are not on every table.
Our favorite meal was the Mangusta ribs. They were tender and well seasoned. Our next favorite was Paysanne pork that goes with a separate portion of melted Camembert cheese. The Flamingo salad portion was huge, but the beef was tough to chew and bland. I also tasted the mixed skewers. The pork skewer was well-cooked and tender. The beef skewer was tough and chewy. We also tried the Grand-mere beef. It was another generous portion, but now the beef was cooked tender and well-seasoned, and the ratatouille was tasty. The last dish I tasted at LaPlanxa was the Grand-pere duck leg. Not impressive at all. The duck leg tasted average. The green beans tasted very bland, even with some salt that I sprinkled on them.
In conclusion, if you are lucky with getting a friendly and prompt server, it is a good place to eat, with large portions and relaxed atmosphere. If you are not a smoker, you might want to avoid the outdoor seating area. Grilled beef might be tough and underseasoned - ask for some salt and pepper. You might need some salt and pepper for...
Read moreI found this place after looking up the reviews online, and went with high expectations. We ordered the burger and the chicken skewers. None of the dishes had any flavor or seasoning. There was no salt or pepper, and we had to get up from our table and ask the server. Maybe we were tourists, but we noted that when a local came to eat in, the staff provided the salt and pepper without the customer asking for it. We asked for an additional plate of chicken skewers, and waited 15 mins while we noticed the kitchen staff busy chatting with each other. After asking them again, they went back to the kitchen and served us with the skewer that was overdone and burnt on one side. The bathroom was dirty and had not been cleaned. Overall it was a poor experience and not on par with what other customers have experienced. The owner sent me a message saying my previous review was not objective, hence I have taken the time to address the owner's concern and write what I felt was the issues with the restaurant and hope that the staff put more effort and attention to...
Read moreArrived in Nice late in the evening and went to La Planxa as it was fairly close to our hotel and had really good reviews. Although quite close to closing time Christian the owner greeted us with open arms. A bottle of water and glasses arrived at the table as soon as we sat down. When we had eaten our gorgeous meals rather than asking us to leave he asked if we would like another drink. The food is really good, rustic French cuisine that is so flavoursome and really good value for money. The food and hospitality were so good that we ended up going here for 3 meals over the course of our 4 day stay. The third visit was unplanned as we had actually sat down in another restaurant near the town hall but after they couldn't even get our drinks order correct we decided to return to La Planxa. Where once again Christian welcomed us with open arms. Amazing guy ,amazing food.
Stopped in again this year and was given the same great welcome. Our meals were identical to our last visit, always the sign of a good restaurant. Still really great...
