🇫🇷 Nice’s Hidden Gem | Nha Que: The BEST Vietnamese Pho in Town!

10/10 🇫🇷❤️🇻🇳 Most restaurants in Nice seem to take the weekend off… 😢 The places I was most excited about? All closed. But then I remembered how my friends had just come back from France and couldn’t stop raving about the Vietnamese food—especially the pho. While browsing high-rated spots near our hotel, a few Vietnamese restaurants caught my eye. We ended up at Nha Que, and wow… what a hidden gem. We arrived right when it opened, and it filled up in minutes. Clearly, we weren’t the only ones who knew this place was the real deal. We ordered a bowl of pho and seafood fried rice to share. One bite in, we both looked at each other like: “Yep. This is legit.” We immediately added spring rolls to the order—no hesitation. Even though it was Vietnamese food, we were still in France, so of course we had to have a glass of wine with it. 😉 To share the pho more easily, and for my sister who’s not a fan of cilantro, we went with a no-coriander version. The bowl was packed with generous slices of beef, tender and flavorful. I’ve heard Vietnamese cuisine is well-developed in France because of historical immigration ties—and now I believe it 100%. But let me tell you… the seafood fried rice was next level. Honestly, better than most seafood fried rice I’ve had in other countries. Super fresh, packed with all kinds of seafood, and bursting with flavor. Still, we kept bringing it up throughout the rest of the trip. Totally random moments like: “Hey… wasn’t that pho and fried rice in Nice insanely good?” Even writing this review right now—I’m drooling just thinking about it.

Haven’t had pho in a long time, so I was pleasantly surprised to find so many pho spots in Europe. This one was a great choice! They’re open late until 10pm, and even when we arrived around 9pm the place was still packed. The location is also very convenient—just a short walk from our Airbnb—perfect for a late-night meal. We ordered a large pho and the shrimp wrap to share. The food came out quickly, and although the pho portion looked a bit smaller than I expected, it was more than enough for the two of us. The broth was delicious—flavorful, balanced, and authentic, without the heavy MSG taste that some places rely on. The owner was very kind, and the service throughout was warm and attentive. I especially loved their spices and the little red chili peppers that gave the soup an extra kick. Do note that this is a cash-only spot, but they let us know upfront before seating. Overall, highly recommended for the flavor, service, and value.

음식 40분 정도 기다리고. 더 늦게 온아저씨 음식 먼저주고. 카드도 안되고. 거스름돈도 은근슬적 안주려하고. Setting aside from the quality and favor of its foods, this restaurant seems not to care about a new customer. I was waiting for my order to be recieved for a long time, maybe 15 minutes; the staff kept saying 1 minute. Then, my food was served much later than that of the person who came after me: he seemed very familar with this place. Also the restaurant did not take the credit card, which most of restaurants in Nice can accept. Lastly the staff did not try to give me the remaining of my payment, while they stayed focusing on chatting with other customers. Even they did not say "thank you" when I was about to leave, which is what I have heard in the restaurants in Nice all the times. I will never recommend this restaurant until they truly say sorry and fix their careless behavior.

I do not tend to remain a review about restaurants like this way. But I am writing this long review in detail to warn those who are willing to visit here, because I might not be able to forget such bad service, which I have never expericed during my traveling all over the world for the past 10 years.

---------------------------------------------- 4th of August,2019 I update here to reply your excuse again. I am really sorry that your reply, remained 3 hours after my previous review, seems to only defend and justify yourself.

First, you do not start your reply saying apology, for whatever you cannot understand what customers argue, but justification and defense of your such service. This causes me to get more upset and decide to update here on your reply. Subject to the service of providers like you, customers might have different point of views; thus you need to listen to thier voice although you do not want to do so like my complain.

Second, yes, 10 cent is tiny and small money; however, it shall be valuded. More imporantly, you have to calculate exactly for what customers have ordered and eaten, to return the remaining money however big or small to them firstly and to let them decide whether to recieve it or not. (especially in your restaurant, credit card is not allowed). From this aspect, one of your staff just got the money from me, but did not try calculate and just stayed doing nothing after taking my payment; while other staff chatting with anothet customer.

Third, it is totally not ture that the customer(hereinafter called the Man) came earlier than me as you mentioned. I had never saw the Man when sitting on my chair. The table the Man occupied had been by other customers. I remember this fact because I was waiting for my seat being cleaned by a female staff, who looked kind at first but too busy to deal with my order... The Man's food had been served ealrier, but even after 10 minutes my food was not delivered. She seemed like to recognize the fact that my food was not cooked or served in strange and to check the paper of my order again. Consequently It has been 40 minutes to get my food on the table since I ordered.

Finally, you even gave me an opportunity to say thank you because you do not stare at me as you did your own works.

If you said sorry first and made an such excuse, I would have not left this kind of long...

Honestly one of the best pho I’ve ever had in my life. Broth is flavourful and perfect temp. They provide chilis, chili oil and hot sauce which were my favourite parts. The bean sprouts they provided looked dry, brown, and past due so I didn’t eat them. One thing that bothered me about the service was that as I initially sat down at a two-seat table (important for later) they told me that they only take cash. I didn’t have any so I left to go get some. When I came back and sat at the same table I was at before (no noticeable difference in the business of the restaurant either in the 10 minute window I was gone) they said sorry we need you to move to the 1 seat table near the door. I’d understand if the restaurant was full but it was not and continued not to be throughout my meal. I told them there’s nobody else here so I don’t understand why I’d have to move to another table and they let it go (especially after having made the effort to return with cash. And the table was in a position where you’d be a spectacle every time someone walked into the restaurant which isn’t fun when you’re alone). I would have moved if they needed the table for another couple but they never did. So for food, it was great - for service, was not...
