Well in Town — Restaurant in Orléans

We visited Well in Town on a Friday evening with a reservation for 7:30 PM. When we arrived, the restaurant was already nearly full, so I strongly recommend making a reservation, as this cozy and casual spot fills up quickly.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a slim young waiter. However, his lack of eye contact and somewhat robotic demeanor made the initial welcome feel cold and impersonal. Thankfully, our next server—a friendly young woman—immediately changed the atmosphere with her warm smile and attentive service, making us feel much more comfortable.

For our meal, we ordered the salmon and fish & chips, accompanied by a Coca Zero and a house-brewed beer recommended by the server. To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed this light, refreshing beer! Midway through our meal, we had a brief chat with the owner, who was welcoming and engaging. His hospitality helped erase the awkward first impression we had with the initial server.

The ambiance was laid-back and cozy yet lively, and by the time we were halfway through our meal, the restaurant was completely full. I would definitely return and highly recommend trying their nine-beer sampler, as they offer a variety of beers from a microbrewery.

While dining, I also noticed the pizzas and burgers served to nearby tables—they were well-presented and looked just as appetizing as our dishes. Before leaving, we had a final chat with the owner to express our appreciation for the delicious food, inviting atmosphere, and overall experience.

Je suis allé dîner dans ce restaurant à l’occasion d’un déplacement professionnel que je faisais à Orléans, et j’ai été très agréablement surpris par la chaleur humaine et la gentillesse de l’accueil. Alors qu’il était tard et que le restaurant était bondé, le serveur m’a accueilli avec un grand sourire détendu, calme, ce qui n’est pas la coutume dans la restauration, où l’arrivée d’un client semble souvent vécue comme une contrariété par le personnel. Je pensais être tombé par chance sur un serveur particulièrement sympathique, mais j’ai eu affaire à trois autres au cours du repas, et tous étaient également sympathiques, souriants, détendus, alors même qu’il y avait beaucoup de travail et de choses à faire. Et le service qui plus est était rapide et efficace. Très rare en France, bravo et merci ! J’ai été aussi satisfait par l’aspect alimentaire, l’œuf parfait en entrée était délicieux, la sauce était très onctueuse et donc sans doute riche, mais pourtant je ne me suis pas senti lourd comme souvent avec les plats en sauce. J’ai consommé ensuite un burger tout à fait classique mais très bon, avec une bonne viande à la bonne cuisson, un pain croustillant, et un accompagnement de crudités soigné, qui est rare, la crudité étant souvent le parent pauvre du burger. La décoration du restaurant est à la fois simple et chaleureuse. Autre point qu’on relève rarement quand on note un établissement : la qualité de la clientèle. J’étais seul et les clients à gauche et à droite de ma table avaient une conversation intéressante, vive et joyeuse. WONDERFUL!!! Arriving from Italy, we had resigned ourselves to bad Parisian food, so we didn’t expect much. In fact, we ate the best food of the holiday! The staff was very friendly, made up of young, cheerful guys and girls who spoke perfect English, which is rare and pleasantly unexpected.
